Apex Tour Red Golf Ball Review
Specs

A four-piece ball designed to give the top-tier balls such as the Titleist Pro V a run for its money, the Hogan Apex Red is a long carrying, high spinning, high-performance golf ball. With a large, three-piece core designed for elasticity and high moment of inertia, the Apex Red launches at high speed off the face of a driver, and the thin, urethane cover promotes controllable, consistent spin and stopping power on the green. Crisply struck iron shots are a joy with this ball.

Perks

The Hogan Co. is known for its quality control and dedication to producing high-quality products, particularly irons. While it has produced good products over the years, the golf ball market has historically eluded them. The Apex Red is one of those great balls that didn't succeed better because other companies have a more established golf ball reputation.

Sacrifices

The Apex Red is no longer manufactured so it is a little difficult to find. The positive side is that where it is available, you can find it usually at close-out prices.

Bottom Line

Hogan has produced an outstanding ball that produces long carries and feel on and around the greens if you can find an outlet where you can buy it.

Industry Experts Debate What Makes an Iron Easy to Hit
by Mike Chwasky
What makes an iron easy to hit? It's a question golfers and designers have been asking since the days of the Nicoll Cleek and Forrester Mashie. When it comes to drivers and woods, it's not nearly as mysterious. Big, light club heads, long graphite shafts and modern materials are easy to spot, and their functions are relatively obvious. With irons it's a different story. At first glance, most irons are almost indistinguishable from one another. Yes, some have longer blades or more offset, but for the most part, irons don't look that much different than they did 25 years ago.
