The best referees are the ones you don’t even notice, and the same can be said for golf shoes.

While walking 36 holes on wet, hilly terrain, the Payntr Sport Classic LE quietly handled everything I threw at them. It wasn’t until it was time to jot down my notes that I remembered I had even begun testing a new pair.

That’s usually the sign of a golf shoe doing its job. However, the Sport Classic LE isn’t quite the perfect golf shoe. Here’s our complete course-tested review.

Need to Know

Every pair of shoes we review is course-tested for at least 36 holes and rated for comfort, traction, waterproofing, style, and value. Our hands-on process ensures you get honest, consistent recommendations you can trust. Learn more about our full testing and scoring process.

I walked 36 holes in the Payntr Classic LE during typical fall conditions, including cool temps and soft ground. While it didn’t rain, the ground was wet enough for balls to plug, which gave me a strong read on traction.

All that walking, about 11 miles total according to my Fitbit, covering hilly terrain, also gave me plenty of feedback on comfort.

  • Waterproof+
  • Excellent comfort for walking (or riding)
  • Lower price than many alternatives in the category

Cons:

  • Sizing runs slightly big
  • No warranty or duration on Waterproof+ claim

The Payntr Sport Classic LE began as off-course trainers, but Jason Day wanted to turn them into shoes that would perform on the golf course, so that’s exactly what Payntr did.

The result is a lightweight, comfortable, all-weather golf shoe that aims to deliver tour-level performance in a spikeless offering.

Payntr Eighty Seven SC Life-Tested Review

Payntr Sport Classic LE Comfort: 9/10

The Sport Classic LE proved to be one of the most comfortable golf shoes I’ve ever walked 36 holes in.

Walking around 5.5 miles per round (according to my Fitbit) on a hilly course, I was glad to have these strapped to my feet. The comfort underfoot was cloud-like, and the lightweight feel made the walk that much easier.

Despite the waterproof capabilities, the outer doesn’t feel stiff whatsoever.

The only knock I have on the comfort is that the sizing runs slightly small. I didn’t size down, but for my second loop I laced them up a little tighter, which helped.

Unless you’re already on the smaller end of your usual fit, stick with your typical size, just expect a roomier fit.

Traction: 9/10

The Sport Classic LE delivers spikeless traction that you can trust in any conditions. In my testing, it handled lift-clean-and-place conditions without batting an eye.

The spikeless outsole is fairly aggressive, and Payntr equipped the Sport Classic LE with a PMX SPED PLT propulsion plate, which is supposed to optimize golfers’ ground reaction forces.

I can’t say I felt that specific piece of technology, but overall I was very pleased with the traction. I’d trust these in most course conditions, but on ultra-sloppy days I’d still opt for a spiked shoe given the choice.

One more thing. Payntr touts all day comfort with the Sport Classic LE, and I agree that the comfort is suitable for all day use, and the style certainly is, too. But I think the outsole is a little too aggressive to consider these an all-day shoe. For me, these are course-only shoes.

Waterproofing: 8/10

Payntr has stepped up its game in the waterproofing category. After stopping short of putting a waterproof label on many of its first golf shoes, Payntr has taken the next step in that category in 2025, starting with another Jason-Day-inspired shoe the Eighty Seven SC.

The Waterproof+ membrane on the Sport Classic LE gave me zero issues in my testing. The Waterproof+ claim gives shoppers an extra layer of confidence, and when you consider that Payntr is competitive or ahead of its peers in most other categories, it makes Payntr tough to beat.

That said, Payntr doesn’t put a warranty or duration on its waterproofing (1 or 2 years, for example). I think that’s the last step to taking Payntr shoes to the very top.

In my opinion, putting a 2-year waterproof warranty on a golf shoe adds unshakable confidence and value.

Afterall, premium prices are much more palatable when you know you can expect to get several strong years out of your investment.

Style: 9/10

Style is subjective, but I love the look of these. They’re clean, classic, and minimalist. They remind me of the Jordan Low G shoes I tested last year, but with way better traction.

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the three color options: white, black, and combo.

If you prefer flashier designs, these won’t be your first pick. But if you appreciate modern classic golf shoes, the Sport Classic LE is right up your alley.

At $160, the Sport Classic LE outperforms golf shoes priced $50 higher.

The lack of a duration and warranty on the waterproofing makes it slightly tougher to predict just how long your $160 investment will last, which is the only consideration that stopped me from giving these shoes a perfect 10 in the value department.

Making the Call

Nobody leaves a game celebrating how great the refs were, and nobody leaves the golf course remarking at how flawless their shoes were.

What makes the Payntr Sport Classic LE stand out is how quietly it blends comfort, performance, style and value.
