Best Golf Shoes for Walking: Fall 2026 Edition

Eighteen holes on foot should be a joy, not a grind. But the wrong golf shoes can make it feel like a marathon.

I’ve tested dozens of golf shoes over the years, walking in some of the best (and worst) models on the market.

With three brand new models added for fall of 2026, this is your go-to guide to finding the shoes that actually make walking the course enjoyable, based on real on-course testing.

Pros:

• Dominates nearly every category we test for

Why It Wins:
TRUE OG3 Pro wasn’t just well-rounded, it dominated virtually every category we test for. It’s one of the lightest golf shoes on this list, scored a perfect 10 for comfort, and delivers a 2-year waterproof warranty. That’s tough to beat if you want the best golf shoe for walking.

On-Course Performance:
In our testing it posted a 10 for comfort and a 9 for traction, numbers that held up across wet and dry rounds alike without a single complaint on fit, grip, or water resistance.

Bottom Line:
Unless you need waterproofing beyond two years or want a sportier spiked option, the OG3 Pro remains the best golf shoe for walking we've tested.

Pros:

• Best for traction (10/10)
• PMXSPEED propulsion plate for better ground-force transfer
• Waterproof+ membrane with a sealed bottom gasket
• Noticeably lighter than our previous spiked pick

Why It Wins:
The new Payntr Proto RS posted a perfect 10 for traction in our testing, pairing Payntr's propulsion-plate technology with a waterproof membrane in a lighter package than most spiked waterproof golf shoes can offer.

On-Course Performance:
Full on-course testing is still ongoing, but thus far, the traction and stability have held up while walking the course, and other than a somewhat stiff feel straight out of the box, there was no break-in period.

Bottom Line:
If you want the stability of a spiked shoe with waterproofing built in, this is the new standard in our testing. Note, the sizing runs slightly big so if you’re between sizes, consider moving down a half-size. Full review coming soon.

Pros:

• Needed no break-in, felt light right out of the box
• Performed flawlessly across 36 wet, muddy holes
• Best-performing waterproof shoe we've tested at the price
• Cleans up easily after a muddy round

Why It Wins: At $140, it's the best-performing waterproof shoe we've tested at the price, with comparable performance typically found in shoes well over $200. If you’re looking for value without sacrificing performance, this is our top pick.

On-Course Performance: We walked 36 holes over two early-season rounds in wet, muddy conditions with thick rough, and it never let in moisture. It needed no break-in, and our feet and legs felt fresh after each loop.

Bottom Line: Its only limitation is breathability in hot weather. For anyone walking in all conditions, it's hard to beat the Payntr Reserve Classic SL at this price.

Pros:

• Best waterproofing we've measured, backed by a 3-year warranty
• Soft leather upper, comfortable with no break-in
• BOA system for easy mid-round fit adjustments
• Aggressive outsole performs like a spiked shoe in wet or dry conditions

Why It Wins: ECCO BIOM C5, with its 3-year waterproof warranty, is the most confident waterproofing claim of any golf shoe out there. A soft, breathable leather upper performs the way a premium shoe should.

On-Course Performance: GORE-TEX kept our feet completely dry while the leather stayed surprisingly breathable, and the aggressive outsole held up in wet and dry conditions as well as most spiked options we've tested.

Bottom Line: At $250–270 it's the most expensive shoe we've tested, and at 509g, the heaviest — which is the biggest tradeoff when you’re considering a golf shoe primarily for walking. But it’s not wasted weight, it’s just what you give up to get better traction and superior waterproofing that lightweight shoes are capable of delivering.

Pros:

• Highest scoring non-waterproof shoe (93/100)
• Lightest shoe we've ever weighed (315g)
• Wanderlux cushioning built specifically for walking

Why It Wins: It posted the highest score we've ever recorded and is, by a wide margin, the lightest shoe we've put on the scale. That’s a difference your feet will feel on the18th hole.

On-Course Performance: On-course testing is underway, and the early indication is this: on days when you don’t need waterproof construction or maximum traction on the course (dry days, in other words), this shoe might be impossible to beat. The zero-drop platform and extra-wide toe box make for the most comfortable walk you could as for. Meanwhile, the modest outsole actually provides much more traction through the golf swing than you’d guess just by looking at them. And at the end of the day, they’re perfect for walking the dog around the neighborhood as well.

Bottom Line: If comfort and weight matter more to you than aggressive traction or sealed-out moisture, this is the shoe to get. 

Pros:

• No break-in period required
• Pebbled leather upper with classic golf styling
• 9mm tread for stable footing
• Comfortable for walking despite a traditional look

Why it wins

The Heathlander golf shoe is a hybrid between a traditional, classic-looking golf shoe and today’s made-for-walking styles that could pass for running shoes or sneakers. They package the classic looks with modern comfort.

On-course performance

I took the Heathlander golf shoes straight out of the cardboard-free box and wore them on the course for three consecutive rounds, and never had a break-in period. No blisters, soreness, no post-round fatigue. The 9mm tread gives this “spikeless” profile the stability you’d expect from a spiked shoe. 

Heathlander doesn’t label these shoes as “waterproof,” though. When I asked co-founder Teddy Lynn why not, he explained that because the brand only launched in 2024, they’re simply too young to make that guarantee. While he’s confident the shoes would pass waterproof testing, the investment required hasn’t been the company’s top priority yet.

Bottom line

Heathlander golf shoes bring a unique style to the category without sacrificing comfort or stability.

Pros:

• Lightweight with a 1-year waterproof warranty
• Built for hiking, travel, and everyday outdoor use
• Comfortable enough for all-day wear off the course

Why they win

After trekking everything but the golf course in them, I’ve determined that the TRUE Ascent PNWProof are the best golf shoes for people who don’t like golf shoes. The lightweight build and waterproof laminated upper handles everything you throw at it without sacrificing flexibility.

On-course performance

Unlike the other golf shoes we rate and review, we did not test the Ascent on the golf course. These stand out more for what they bring off the course than their on-course performance.

The soft upper is what you would expect from a running shoe, and they’re very comfortable overall.

From a pure golf perspective, the Ascent’s outsole is third-tier. It’s not a spiked profile (Tier 1), and it doesn’t boast an aggressive spikeless tread (Tier 2). While I didn’t test these on a golf course, I did spend hours hitting golf shots in these shoes, albeit indoors on a mat. Rest assured they offer all the stability you need for a golf swing.

Bottom line

One of a small group of shoes on this list weighing under 400g, the TRUE Ascent PNWProof appeals to golfers who want a comfortable shoe for walking the course and whatever other outdoor adventures they seek. Because these don’t feature TRUE’s wide toe box that some other models include, the fit is a little on the tight side. If you’re unsure, consider sizing up a half-size.

Editor's Picks

I haven’t had a chance to walk in every promising golf shoe for 2026 yet. My Editor’s Picks below are based on brand reputation, design, materials, and early feedback.

Why it’s here:

The PUMA IGNITE ELEVATE 2 gives golfers a reliable spikeless option that costs less than most of the competition while delivering PUMA’s signature comfort and a 1-year waterproof warranty. That’s an enticing package, all things considered.

The previous edition of IGNITE ELEVATE was one of the first golf shoes I tested years ago, and it’s still one of my top two or three favorite pairs to wear when walking the course on a warm day.

Why it’s here:

• Previous Skechers GO GOLF Slip-Ins performed very well in our testing
• Slip-in is a desirable feature that most competitors don’t offer
• Blend of waterproof construction, breathable and flexible body, and quarter-inch spikeless outsole provides an elite total package

Like the PUMA shoes mentioned above, I tested a previous edition of Skechers GO GOLF slip-ins, and it was one of the most surprising performances of any shoe I’ve tested. Skechers has a proven ability to create a waterproof shoe that moves with your feet. That means none of its signature comfort is sacrificed.

While they’re comfortable enough to wear all day, the slip-in convenience makes it easy to change shoes in the parking lot before and after your round.

Why it’s here:

• Great value from one of the most reputable brands on the market
• All day comfort

In addition to being lauded for the comfort FootJoy is known for, the Flex XP are getting excellent feedback from golfers walking the course, particularly in dry, summer conditions. At around $100, it’s a great value from a trustworthy brand.

Walk the Walk

They’ve said golf is a long walk spoiled. Based on your on-course performance, that could be the case, but in this day and age, there’s no excuse to let your footwear spoil your day on the course.
