Why am I so excited to review the new Payntr Eighty Seven SC golf shoes? It’s not only because this is Payntr’s first release in collaboration with new part-owner Jason Day. It’s also because the Eighty Seven SC breaks new ground for Payntr golf shoes.

I’ve tested various Payntr golf shoes in the past, and I’ve always come to the same conclusion: they’re excellent golf shoes but lack the waterproof warranty that gives me confidence to wear them in dicey spring and fall conditions.

Need to Know

Every pair of shoes we review is course-tested for at least 36 holes and rated for comfort, traction, waterproofing, style, and value. Our hands-on process ensures you get honest, consistent recommendations you can trust. Learn more about our full testing and scoring process.

Truthfully, I’m looking out for my feet and yours. Not only do I walk my Pacific Northwest home course once a week (more if I’m lucky) from the opening week in the spring through the final fall golf days, but I also put my name on my recommendations of the best golf shoes each year. When any shoe maker puts their money where their mouth is by attaching the “Waterproof” label to a shoe, that promise carries weight for me, and I think it should with you, too.

So let’s check out Payntr Golf’s first waterproof shoe, the Jason Day-inspired Eighty Seven SC.

How I Tested Payntr Eighty Seven SC Golf Shoes

Excruciatingly, the Eighty Seven SC golf shoes sat patiently in my garage, waiting out a long, cold, wet winter to be tested.

Mercifully, that opportunity finally came slowly but surely this spring. I began testing by using the Eighty Seven SC during my first outdoor driving range sessions of the season, and eventually laced them up for my first rounds of the spring, walking 18 holes each time. Conditions were typical of spring golf, with some unavoidable wet and soggy spots that put Payntr's waterproof label to the test.

When I first saw the Eighty Seven SC, it felt like a natural progression for Payntr Golf.

Payntry Golf was established in 2020, and its first golf shoes laid the groundwork for the brand’s identity: comfortable, modern golf shoes that work with your golf swing to elevate performance.

Adding a waterproof shoe to the lineup, with design input from a major champion nonetheless, is a maturation, if you will, of the brand.

The design is clearly tour-inspired. The minimalist look with unique accents, like the raised gold 3D Payntr logo and green insole is attractive yet subtle.

At first glance, the Payntr Eighty Seven SC is undoubtedly a professional shoe.

Comfort & Fit

Payntr established itself as a leader among comfortable golf shoes for walkers. I’ve confirmed this to be true with previous first-hand tests of its X 003 F and X 005 F.

As the final days of my 30s wind down, walking 18 holes in any pair of golf shoes becomes a better and better test of comfort.

The Eighty Seven SC delivered all the comfort on my feet during the round that I’ve come to expect from Payntr. They’re wearable straight out of the box, and I never had any discomfort, rubbing, blisters, or anything of the sort. My legs and feet were pain-free in the hours and days after playing.

If anything, I’ve found Payntr golf shoes to run a touch big. Wearing the same shoe size I always wear, I noticed slightly more room in the Eighty Seven SC than I’m used to when I first put them on, but once I teed off and started walking, it never crossed my mind again. If anything, I’d guestimate it to be about a quarter-size, and I would not opt for a different size given the opportunity.

Performance

Seven spikes keep you grounded in all conditions

Testing the Payntr Eighty Seven SC in typical spring golf conditions was ideal, and if I had to choose one golf shoe to wear exclusively for the first two months of my golf season I couldn’t find any reason not to pick these.

The seven spikes kept me connected to the turf even on wet and soggy lies. My feet also stayed dry and warm throughout each round.

Not to mention, the look is not only sophisticated and attractive, but works with any golf outfit.

Since this is Payntr’s first swing at a waterproof golf shoe, performance was perhaps the biggest question mark going into my test, and having tested and reviewed 20-or-so different golf shoes in the last few years alone, I put the Eighty Seven SC in the top tier of performance.

While a couple practice sessions and a couple walking rounds gives me enough of a feel to write a thorough review of the Eighty Seven SC golf shoes, I can’t speak to the durability quite yet.

After roughly 10 hours of wet and dirty use and a quick wipe-down, these all white shoes still look brand new.

Payntr outlines seven layers to these shoes that work together to boost performance. The Carbitex directional carbon fiber propulsion plate is topped with a foam filler and 3D molded footbed to yield performance and comfort underfoot.

Meanwhile, the Ariaprene tongue booty comfort package makes for comfort on top and behind the foot. That’s a lot of body parts to describe a shoe’s comfort, but here we are.

All of that is enclosed with a performance midsole, lightweight outsole and cleats, and waterproof upper.

Value

The Payntr Eighty Seven SC comes with a sticker price of $220. While that’s squarely in the top-tier golf shoe price category, these shoes have every right to ask that price.

From looks to comfort, and waterproofing to performance, the Payntr Eighty Seven SC is as good as any spiked golf shoe I’ve tested.

When I consider value in a golf shoe – especially a more expensive golf shoe – I consider how long you can reasonably expect them to be in the rotation.

Based on my testing and the experience I have with various similar shoes, I think it’s reasonable to expect to get somewhere between 75-100 rounds out of these shoes, or 3-5 seasons for a golfer who plays 30-50 times a year and rotates between two pairs of golf shoes.

Growing Up

Payntr Golf is growing up, and the Eighty Seven SC is evidence of that.

Golfers looking for a sophisticated spiked golf shoe that offers the confidence to play in wet, rainy, soggy, muddy conditions that only a shoe with the waterproof tag can deliver, should check this one out.

I have plenty more golf shoes to test and review for 2025, but I’ll be shocked if this isn’t one of my top two or three favorites golf shoes of the year when it’s all said and done.
