ECCO BIOM C5 Life-Tested Review: Performance at a Price
The best-performing shoe we've tested also happens to be the most expensive.

How much would you spend on a golf shoe that’s built to last the better part of a decade?
We tested the new ECCO BIOM C5, and while the performance is hard to argue with, the price might give you pause.
How We Tested ECCO BIOM C5
We put the ECCO BIOM C5 through our published golf shoe testing process, meaning our ratings for comfort, traction, waterproofing, style and value are based on walking 36 holes on the course.

Comfort & Fit: 9/10

I took the BIOM C5 straight out of the box to the first tee and walked several rounds in them. The soft leather upper and cushioned insole provided immediate comfort.
The BOA system – which is optional – makes it easy to dial in the right fit. It’s also handy mid-round if you need a quick adjustment, or perhaps a little extra breathability while barely breaking stride.
Using the same shoe size I’ve worn my entire adult life, the BIOM C5 fit exactly as expected. For those who wear wide shoes, ECCO’s two-insole system allows you to remove the insole to get a wider fit.
The only knock on BIOM C5 in the comfort category is the weight. These tipped the scales at 509g per shoe, which is about 35% heavier than my favorite golf shoe of 2025, the TRUE OG3 Pro. Though I never noticed the BIOM C5 feeling heavy while on the course, that extra weight can take a toll over the course of a round, especially when you’re walking.

Best Golf Shoes for Walking: Early 2026 Edition
Traction & Stability: 9/10
I’ve tested more than two dozen golf shoes in the last few years, and I’ve come to the conclusion that for 95% of players in 95% of course conditions, the right spikeless golf shoe gives all the traction and stability needed.
I’d listen to an argument from players who swing the club over 110 MPH or play in heavy rain several times a year.
For everyone else, the aggressive outsole on modern spikeless shoes like the BIOM C5 is plenty. It’s not spiked, but it performs as well as most spiked options.
Waterproof: 10/10
ECCO protects the BIOM C5 with GORE-TEX, which provides 100% waterproof protection backed by a 3-year warranty.
That’s the best waterproof warranty in the business, yet it doesn’t feel like a water-repelling beast. The leather upper is softer and more breathable than you’d think.

The 9 Best Waterproof Golf Shoes of 2025
Style: 9/10

Is it just me, or have ECCO shoes embraced a more relaxed style in recent years? The design of the transition from the sole to the upper is inspired by the Scottish shoreline, a nod to the birthplace of golf, and a moderate dose of accent colors allow a somewhat minimal design personality to take over.
Of all the categories we grade shoes on, style is obviously the most personal. But in my opinion, the BIOM C5 aesthetic just works.
Value: 8/10
Of the three performance categories we score shoes in, none of the 20-plus shoes we’ve rated score better than the BIOM C5. But that top-tier blend of comfort, traction and waterproofing comes at a cost.
BIOM C5’s $250 (laced) and $270 (BOA) asking price is the steepest of any shoe we’ve tested.
In this case, you get what you pay for. No more, no less.
Who Are They For?
The ECCO BIOM C5 is ideal for golfers who are willing to invest in their golf footwear.
The upfront cost is high, yes. But that 3-year waterproof warranty is a signal that these shoes will stand the test of time. And if they’re anything like the half-dozen other ECCO shoes I’ve tested, they will.
Beyond the sheer life of the shoe, satisfying comfort and ample traction add to the return on that initial investment.
Budget shoppers who just need a pair to last the rest of this season, look elsewhere.
You’ll pay a premium to wear the BIOM C5, but you’ll only need to buy them once.
