The 18-hole "Sterling Park" course at the Sterling Golf Club facility in Sterling, Virginia features 2,610 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 54. Designed by U.S. Steel, the Sterling Park golf course opened in 1963.
Nice layout with some interesting holes, forced carries, moderate elevations. The only exception was the quirky "dogleg" 11th, a 178 yarder on which the left 3/4 of the green were hidden behind a tree, so the only way to find the green was to risk OB by hitting a draw around said trees. This place could be a gem if it invested in keeping the course in good shape. Alas, the conditions were pretty poor, with very little grass on the tee boxes, and lots of bumps and bare spots on the greens. If you mishit a shot, at least the fairways and areas around the greens are in decent shape. The staff was relatively friendly, and there was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant/bar.All in all, a good place to work on your short game if you're not too picky about conditions, and an excellent place for a junior to play.
18 par three holes from about 100 to 200 yards each with excellent greens. For beginners, seniors and families, it is perfect. Membership plans are affordable (monthly payment plans available), there is a big swimming pool available for members, and is not pretentious at all. VERY family-oriented. Lots of league and tournament events as well as family oriented events. Check it out on facebook.
