I just played this course for the first time and I loved it. It's challenging, but fair. There are no houses to get in the way (although it looks like they are breaking ground on some) and you very seldom see another hole from the one you're playing. In a season where I have seen a lot of courses with turf problems, Bull Run was in fantastic shape. It's also a course that you could walk, which I very much enjoy.

Played Bull Run over the weekend for the first time. During the last few years my friends and I stayed away from this tract due to the reviews and word-of-mouth about the course's decent into dogtrackville. But with Raspberry management moving in to take over the maintenance, we decided to give a try. It also didn't hurt that we got a great pre-pay deal on green-fees. Now I'm not sure how "bad" the course was before but this weekend it was in really great shape. The fairways were very well cut, the majority of divots were sodded and the greens were tricky, fast and true. And it wasn't overly booked and crowded. Our round took 4 hours and 30 minutes. The course has it's problems - especially the infestation of wasps on several of the greens but I'm guessing with Raspberry in charge I'm sure they will do all they can to solve these issues. The tee boxes weren't the greatest either but it wasn't like teeing off on rough or on a rock. According to Bull Run's staff, the tee boxes will be rebuilt and sodded during the fall/winter to take out the former Bermuda base and install new bent grass. Most surprising of all is the fact that the course is very challenging, scenic and provides a good mix of short and long par 3s and par 4s. All in all, a very good nice to place to play considering some of the crappy alternatives in the Northern Virginia area. That being said, I wouldn't pony up more than 60 dollars a round. There are still much better courses you can play and in better shape in NoVa at the moment for a price in excess of 60 bucks.

One of my favorite courses in the area, and a good deal. Very scenic, and no houses on the course which I love. Usually very well maintained, and new ownership seems very helpful and friendly.

I've lived in the area since 1982 and picked up the game of golf about 10 years later. I've tried to play Bull Run at least every year since it opened to see if it's getting better but this year is the last year I will pay $70.00 for a round of golf at Bull Run on the weekend. The course is still suffering from the fungus that crippled it less then 5 years ago. It's over priced and needs some major help - paying attention to the greens and fairways should be their #1 priority. The greens are very spotty especially on the back 9 and the fairways still have bare spots along with the rough, being too high and bare in spots too. The traps weren't raked and the folks at the front desk were less the hospitable. I remember when this course opened, it had GPS and it was in awesome shape. Everyone wanted to play it. This is $45 Dollar course at best on the weekend. The bar is still in great shape though and the layout is one of a kind. The up keep and maintenance needs to be upgraded, and the people working behind the desk need to take a couple of customer service classes too.
