The good Awesome golf course. Best range ever. Course is great. Clubhouse awesome. The bad. If the Soviet Union had golf, they'd have had fewer rules! You can't fix a ballmark, the caddy has to. There are no yardages on scorecard or markers in fairways. With that, they went thru my golf bag and took my laser out before round started. No place are cell phones allowed except in car. Get over yourselves! It's only a game.

Friar's Head Golf Club

The course is a work still in progress. The course opened three years ago and the beautiful clubhouse is only just now approaching completion. It is a spectacular facility. There is a large practice area with numerous greens. You can pitch backwards to two different beautiful greens or hit forward for full swing warm-up and practice. There is a group of par 3 holes to putter around on. There are individual practice greens tucked away in secluded areas. For now you go by cart to the first tee, up in the dunes. There the fabulous old stone clubhouse is being completed overlooking the Long Island Sound, with Bridgeport, Connecticut in the distance. Next to it is a large shingled wood building. The first and tenth tees lead away from the clubhouse and the 9th and 18th come in. 14,15,16,17,18,1,8 and 9 are in the dunes. 2 thru 7 and 11 thru 13 are "down on the farm". That portion of the course was created on farm land. The architcets did a masterful job here with fescue plantings and long natural looking bunkers. It's kind of like Kingsbarn in Scotland, farmland realistically transformed into links golf. The greens are very unusual and that is what the course is all about. Levels and teirs and swales that create numerous targets within a green and lots of putts if your approach shots are not well played. Upon completion of the clubhouse facilities it will be up to the members to make the club one of the very best in America. There is one area on the course that needs to be reworked. To the left of the 7th fairway is a large deep gully. Since all the water drains into the area the fescues cannot grow and it just looks like a large unfinished area. It is a small thing in the whole site but it should be addressed and corrected. Long Island is like Bay Area California. A fabulous golf area but no one knows it because of the exclusivity of the courses. Shinnecock, Maidstone, National Golf Links and Atlantic cannot or will not admit enough members. Friar's Head,The Bridge and Sebonac are spectacular new courses now available that match the quality of the previous elite courses. Garden City, Deepdale and Bethpage Black are also on Long Island but in a much different area. That is a lot of spectacular golf in one region.
