Course layout is unique and more challenging than you think. No water on the course, but that is fine being in L.A. The carts are relatively new and swift, but with no GPS. It is walkable, but has some hill to it. Watch out for the squirels as they will tear up your bag. Greens are a little to spongy, but role true. Traps are average and the trees have all been trimmed for a much better experience. The driving range is relatively new and is pretty good. The worst thing is the time on the course and that can be sped up if they added 2 marshalls some how, but doubt the budget will allow it. All in all, a fun course in the middle of LA.

Love this old track. Good old style clubhouse. Little expensive. Range is lame, should tare it down and make 18th more playalbe. Overall best LA city course.

Rancho Park is a tree lined course with many slopes and gently undulating hills. If you stay in the fairway you can shoot a good score, but if you are off the fairway on any hole, it is very easy to have big score. The greens are a mixture of bent and poana and are usually a little long and bumpy. This used to be a great course when the PGA played there. It will forever be known as the place Jack Nicklaus earned his first money as a pro. His pay was a 3 way split of $100.00. But today, the city parks department does a rotten job of maintaining it. It is a nice lay-out, but the play can be slow. It is in the middle of a large city that doesn't have enough public courses, so it is always crowded. The pace of play is about 5 5-1/2 hours during the week and longer on the weekends, so be prepared to have a long walk in the park. The three par 3's are the real teeth of this course and all of them are a challenge. The driving range features a double dicker stalls full of plastic mats that face a dirt field with little colored signs to aim at. The chipping area is small and one of the worst in the world, but the practice greens are usually in good shape. This course has no practice bunker.

Rancho was a great course in it's day but it is a dogtrack now. It gets TONS and TONS of play from LA locals....so it is hard to get on and SLOW SLOW when you play. The "driving range" is a joke caught up in LA politics....it is literally all dirt...no grass on the range and contained buy a cage. L.A. puts almost no $'s into this course because they don't have to. Since it is one of the few games in town...people will play anyway so no need to be good. For my $'s I say go to Los Verdes in PV for great views and a pretty good track.
