PXG Xtreme Tour Review: Too Much Sidespin? Try This Ball
Accurate and affordable. But can you live with the tradeoffs?

PXG doesn’t hide behind vague claims. The Xtreme Tour is PXG’s tour-level urethane ball, positioned to compete with the big names at just $39 a dozen.
One fact makes it clear who this ball is for: in our 43-ball test for 2026, it finished 6th in accuracy.
That accuracy comes with tradeoffs, though. Stopping power was near the bottom of our field and distance was only average.
While $39 for a urethane ball is a great starting point, there’s plenty of competition in that category. Let's see how it stacks up.
How We Tested PXG Xtreme Tour
We put the PXG Xtreme Tour through our published golf ball testing protocols using the SkyTrak ST Max launch monitor. That means human swings under strict bands for swing speed, impact quality, and delivery dynamics.
To see performance from tee to green, we test driver, 7-iron, and 50-yard wedge shots with each ball.
We tested 43 golf balls in total for 2026 then translated the raw data into 1-10 scores in the categories that matter most to your game. That lets you easily see how each ball stacks up to the field.

PXG Xtreme Tour has a classic low-spin driver profile designed to maximize distance and reduce sidespin for a longer, straighter flight. That low-spin profile is consistent through the bag, finishing with a mid-spin profile in the wedge game. That translates to straighter and somewhat longer shots, but with less bite on the greens.
It’s worth noting that PXG also makes the Xtreme Tour X, which also costs $39 but produces a mid-spin profile with noticably better stopping power and slightly more distance while giving up the accuracy edge that makes Xtreme Tour stand out.
The choice comes down to what your game actually needs.

Distance: 7.9/10
PXG Xtreme Tour delivered 137.3 mph of ball speed and 218.1 yards of carry in our driver test, ranking 16th out of 43 in distance. That's a respectable middle-of-the-pack result, and for context, it’s only two yards short of being a top-10 ball in distance, so there’s not a ton of separation between it and the top tier.
But that doesn't fully tell the story. The low-spin, mid-launch profile keeps the ball flight flatter, which can squeeze out extra roll on firm fairways and plays well into wind.
If your swing speed is on the higher end, you may get more out of the Xtreme Tour's driver profile than our mid-90s testing speeds showed. Lower-spin balls tend to reward faster swingers who don't need extra help getting the ball airborne.

Stopping Power: 6.0/10
Stopping power is a certifiable weakness. Xtreme Tour ranked 38th out of 43 balls in the category.
With a flatter descent angle and 12.9 yards of roll in our iron test, it simply doesn't stop quickly on approach. Some players can work around a ball with weaker stopping power, and others put a premium on stopping the ball quickly on the greens. If you’re in the latter category, consider a different ball.
This is the same pattern we see with other low-spin balls. The low-spin design that keeps your driver straight and boosts distance also makes it harder to stop your irons. It's a tradeoff worth thinking about when choosing your ball.

PXG Xtreme Tour vs. Tour X Golf Balls: Life-Tested Review
Wedge Control: 8.1/10

Our wedge test was more encouraging. Xtreme Tour created an average 6,328 RPM of spin on our 50-yard test and a mid-launch profile that kept rollout to 3.3 yards. That's a solid score despite the low-sounding 33rd overall rank. The spread between 20th and 40th in our 43-ball field is pretty tight, and Xtreme Tour holds its own around the greens.
The low-spin character doesn't kill short game performance the way it affects iron stopping power. Most players will have no problem controlling Xtreme Tour from 100 yards and in.

Accuracy: 9.0/10

Accuracy is Xtreme Tour's signature. The 117 RPM of driver sidespin was the 6th lowest of 43 balls we tested, and it veered only 9.3 yards offline on average.
That accuracy carried into our iron test as well, with 116 RPM of sidespin and an average 6.2 yards offline.
If you have a tendency to spray the driver and you're willing to trade some stopping power for straighter ball flight, Xtreme Tour makes a compelling case.

Value: 6.6/10
At $39 a dozen, PXG Xtreme Tour sits in a competitive spot. Balls like the Ben Hogan GS53 ($41 in bulk) and Maxfli Tour ($30 in bulk) offer more well-rounded performance at similar or lower prices.
The accuracy score is a benefit that a lot of golfers could use, but if that's not your primary concern, the value proposition weakens.
It's worth noting that the Xtreme Tour X also costs $39 and outperforms this ball in distance and stopping power. So unless you specifically need the accuracy advantage, Tour X is probably the better choice within the PXG lineup.
Who is PXG Xtreme Tour For?
PXG Xtreme Tour is for the player who wants their ball to help fight their big miss. If driver sidespin and dispersion are costing you strokes, this is one of the top balls you should consider.
It's not for better players who rely on iron spin to hold greens, and it's not a standout value pick. But as a specific solution to a specific problem, it's hard to beat at this price.
