These GEN8 irons aren’t the first-ever irons with adjustable weights, but it still marks a significant step forward for the technology.

The standard configuration is two 5g weights, and weights are available in one gram increments from 2g to 12g. That gives fitters a boatload of freedom to move weight around, and we’ll get to what exactly that means for players in just a second. But first, here’s some of the other tech and features PXG highlights in the GEN8 irons:

  • QuantumCOR polymer
  • Deep Core Recoil Technology
  • Internal high-density tungsten weighting

While touting the GEN8 irons as a significant step forward, PXG is clear that those gains are a result of noticeably tighter dispersion, not even more distance than its previous generation lineup.

Our Take

The adjustable weighting is a big deal, and that’s what really sets these irons apart. Think about it. If you can move your face-to-path number in either direction, then you can move it closer to zero. And, if you move it closer to zero, you hit straighter shots. It’s that simple.

During a recent product training call to introduce the GEN8 irons, PXG said that in blind testing, 100% of players experienced change in their face-to-path relationship at impact when swapping the adjustable weights.

Since your face-to-path relationship is the thing that dictates how straight your ball flies, and what shape it curves, that’s huge.

With weight favoring the heel, testers delivered the face 0.5 degrees more closed at impact. When weight was loaded behind the toe, the face was 0.7 degrees more open at impact.

That gives next-level shot-shape control to the golfer.
