Takomo, one of the darlings of the direct-to-consumer golf club OEMs, released three new irons to kick off 2026. The Iron 101 MKII, 201 MKII, and 201T MKII mark the second generation of the brand’s debut, clean-looking, high-performing, affordable iron sets.

Takomo says the new MKII irons include:

  • Variable face thickness
  • Refined weighting
  • Cleaner looks

Following up Takomo’s debut line of irons is no easy task. Those irons were adored by countless players for their sleek looks, impressive performance, and attractive prices.

To improve on those irons, Takomo gave the MKII irons a few new technologies, including variable face thickness and refined weighting in each set.

The Iron 101 MKII transitioned from a 4-PW set to a 5-GW set, which makes perfect sense given its position as a game-improvement iron and mid-to-high handicap player trends shifting towards ditching the 4-iron in favor of 7-woods, 9-woods, and hybrids. The strongest lofts in the family match typical game-improvement iron sets, with a 29° 7-iron and 43° PW. The 48° gap wedge helps blend the Iron 101 MKII with a traditional wedge set.

The Iron 201 MKII replaces the 101T from the debut line as a players distance iron. It comes standard in a 4-PW set and has slightly weaker lofts than the Iron 101 MKII, with a 31° 7-iron and 46° PW. The 201T MKII also comes in a 4-PW set and has the weakest, or most traditional, if you will, lofts in the lineup, with a 33° 7-iron and 47° PW.

Behind the new variable thickness face, which goes up to the 8-iron in the 101 MKII and 7-iron in the 201 and 201T MKII, Takomo tinkered with the head weight with the goal of improving launch in the longer irons and control on the shorter irons.

Takomo also claims a new, cleaner look in the MKII series, but there really wasn’t much to clean up from the minimalist-looking debut family of irons.

Covering the players, players distance, and game-improvement categories, Takomo’s new MKII irons offer something for every level of player from scratch to 25+ handicappers:

  • Iron 101 MKII: 15+ HCP / Game Improvement
  • Iron 201 MKII: 5-25 HCP / Players Distance
  • Iron 201T MKII: 0-15 HCP / Players Precision

The MKII irons appeal to golfers looking for quality irons with premium components at an affordable price. The clean, minimalist aesthetic doesn’t hurt, either.

Players looking for forged irons, however, will have to look elsewhere. All three irons in the new MKII family are cast, multi-material irons. However, you don’t have to search outside of Takomo to find forged irons. The 301 CB and 301 MB, part of Takomo’s original family of irons, are forged, and still in the lineup.

Left-handed players will be happy to know that all of the irons in the MKII lineup are available both right and left-handed.

Our Take: Takomo MKII Irons

The MKII irons are a natural progression from Takomo’s original line. We tested the Iron 101 first hand, and it lived up to the hype it’s earned over the last five years.

Adding technologies like variable face thickness and building the Iron 101 MKII as a 5-GW set keep Takomo squarely aligned with modern trends that players shopping for irons today expect. Still, the MKII irons are hundreds less, if not half the price of irons from the brands you see on tour.

The beauty of the original Takomo irons was that the performance exceeded expectations and way out-performed the price. That’s why they have been so successful for so long. After all, the original Iron 101 hit the market in 2021.

We haven’t tested the MKII irons yet, but if the performance is incrementally better, we fully expect these to dominate the DTC iron category for most of the rest of this decade.
