Mileseey is one of the hottest names in the rangefinder game in 2025, and its latest tech-forward, do-it-all rangefinder has arrived. The Mileseey GenePro G1 is part of a small but growing hybrid category of rangefinders that couples a vibrant color touchscreen and GPS maps with a sharp, quick, and accurate laser in one sleek unit.

And while that sounds like a lot, the GenePro G1 offers even more. I took the new GenePro G1 for a test drive out on the golf course for this complete life-tested and unbiased review.

How We Test Rangefinders

Every rangefinder we review is tested both on the course and in a controlled environment with precisely measured distances. This testing verifies accuracy within inches and compares performance across key categories like speed, optics, and ease of use. Learn more about how we test rangefinders.

Best Golf Rangefinders (Tested & Ranked)

Mileseey GenePro G1 First Impressions

The day before I took the GenePro G1 to the golf course, I went through some recommended first steps. First, I made sure it was fully charged, then checked for any required firmware updates, and downloaded the Mileseey Golf app.

Next, I skimmed through the user manual. Given how many features are built into the unit, I wanted to make sure I could access the ones I needed for testing.

With all the features packed into the GenePro G1, it won’t feel second nature right away. Depending on your tech-savviness, there are two routes you could take. You can either test the waters gradually, starting with the basics and toying with new features over time, or get familiar with the manual from the get-go and cut down the learning curve.

Mileseey GenePro G1 On-Course Performance

Mileseey's ball-to-pin feature lets you shoot the distance from your ball to the hole from anywhere

The basic functions were easy to use, but some of the more advanced features felt a bit clunky at first. Here’s what I found on the course.

Connecting the GenePro G1 GPS to the course you’re on is a breeze. The screen is intuitive, and it connects faster than any golf GPS I can remember.

The laser is lightning quick at locking on to targets, and the touchscreen is not only super responsive, but it’s intuitive to move the flag, set targets, and find distances to any spot on the hole. Beyond that, it even automatically locates the hole you’re on, so if you start somewhere other than the first hole, or when you advance holes throughout your round, there’s no need to scroll through the menu.

Ball-to-Pin mode quickly became one of my favorite features. It was surprisingly intuitive as well. I like using this feature not only to measure my shot when I’m not standing at my ball, but also to measure fairway widths from the tee, and the distance from a potential layup target to the hole.

The slope feature, while technically easy, did give me trouble. It’s easy to toggle slope on and off, but it’s not necessarily intuitive. During one round using the GenePro G1, I mistakenly turned the slope feature off, and I could not for the life of me figure out how to turn it back on. After I checked the manual later that evening, I learned that the chrome piece on the front of the unit, below the laser, is actually a dial that turns 180-degrees to toggle slope on or off. I’d bet 9 out of 10 golfers couldn’t figure out how to turn it on in under 60 seconds if handed the unit cold. That said, once you know, you know.

Who is the Mileseey GenePro G1 Best Suited For?

The thing that the GenePro G1 does best is eliminate the need for multiple devices.

I usually use a GPS watch for quick yardages and a laser rangefinder for the occasional slope-adjusted distance. I also keep my score and traditional stats manually on a scorecard, while my GPS watch tracks more advanced stats.

The GenePro G1 does all of those things in one.

If you’re a tech-forward person in general and the idea of one piece of equipment that can do pretty much everything that a rangefinder, GPS app, and scorecard can do, you’ll love the GenePro G1.

This unit is also great for players who often play unfamiliar layouts and a variety of courses. The bright, colorful, full-screen hole maps make it easy to pinpoint trouble areas and target the ideal shot to hit. This is a huge advantage when you’re playing a course for the first time and can’t see the trouble that lurks ahead.

The GenePro G1 also appeals to players who want to take a closer look at their games. It’s easy to track shot distances and on-course stats while you play using this rangefinder. After your round, you simply sync with the Mileseey Golf app and get an in-depth look at your on-course performance, which can lead to quicker improvement.

Who Might Want to Look Elsewhere

If the idea of scrolling through your rangefinder to track your score, total putts, and fairways hit after every hole, tagging your location before every shot, and navigating a high-tech interface while also navigating the golf course sounds too overwhelming to you, I’m not going to try to convince you to give the GenePro G1 a chance.

This is a high-tech device, and if you don’t want a high-tech rangefinder, there are plenty of great point-and-shoot options that don’t require a user manual.

If you’re eager to explore the latest features, you’ll adapt quickly. But if you don’t crave those frills, the GenePro G1 might be more frustrating than fun.

Battery Life & Value

At $499, the GenePro G1 is not suited for those shopping in the budget category.

It’s also worth noting that the unit is USB-C rechargeable, and while the 36-hole battery life is impressive for a unit that does everything the GenePro G1 is capable of, that’s nothing compared to the battery life you can expect from a standard rangefinder, which can last a few seasons.

While the GenePro G1 lacks the convenience of a magnetic cart mount, it is a sturdy unit, with an IP65 waterproof rating. In other words, it can’t be submerged in water, but it can withstand dust and some raindrops.

Mileseey GenePro G1 Final Verdict

My verdict after using the Mileseey GenePro G1 on the course over multiple rounds is simple: what you see is what you get.

The GenePro G1 does everything advertised, and packs almost every feature I’ve ever seen in a rangefinder or GPS device into one unit. That is a pretty spectacular feat and this unit is indeed pretty spectacular.

Not every golfer wants or needs a spectacular rangefinder. If you don’t, you probably already know it.

If you want an incredible, tech-forward hybrid rangefinder that does it all, then it’s hard to beat the GenePro G1. If you want a point-and-shoot budget rangefinder that only tells you how far to hit your next shot, then something more understated would be a better fit for you.

Not much about the Mileseey GenePro G1 is simple, but deciding whether or not it’s right for you is.
