Golf shoes have been around forever, and they’ve been evolving admirably in both fashion and function over the last 10 years or so. So, how does a newcomer to the golf shoe space capture the coveted Best New Product award at the PGA Show?

Heathlander Golf Shoes did just that. The up-and-coming golf shoe brand is hyper-focused on the proper golfer, and as a result, tapped into an underserved segment of the golf shoe market.

I’ve tested nearly two dozen golf shoes in the last few years, analyzing performance in all types of conditions, comfort, style, breathability, quality, and function. After adding the Heathlander golf shoe to that list, I can see exactly why it was selected for the PGA Show’s prestigious Best New Product award.

Here’s our complete course-tested review.

Every pair of shoes we review is course-tested for at least 36 holes and rated for comfort, traction, waterproofing, style, and value. Our hands-on process ensures you get honest, consistent recommendations you can trust. Learn more about our full testing and scoring process.

How We Tested Heathlander Golf Shoes

To test the Healthander golf shoes, I wore them for 54 holes of golf over consecutive weekends in typical Pacific Northwest spring conditions. That means some wind, some chilly temperatures, some wet areas, and some heat.

Having tested 20-something golf shoes in the last few years, I have a strong foundation of what to expect, how various shoes stack up, and what types of golfers they benefit most.

SHOP HEATHLANDER
Price: $190
Style: Men’s & Women’s
Profile: Spikeless
Waterproof: 1 year

Pros:

  • Classic look with modern comfort
  • Sophisticated and unique style
  • Excellent stability
  • Men’s & women’s sizes available

Cons:

  • Alternate piping color is the only color/style choice available
  • Given the aggressive outsole, these do not transition off the course
  • No wide options available (those with wider feet should size up)

The Heathlander golf shoe is somewhat of a hybrid between the more traditional, classic-looking golf shoes and the modern made-for-walking golf shoes that could pass for running shoes or sneakers.

The white pebbled leather upper, with nothing but a small logo up top, is the foundation for a classic design. A dark green midsole and pink outsole provide a pop of color, and an accent color that fuses the upper and midsole creates an elegant package.

Despite the looks, don’t expect the stiff, boardy feel typically associated with elegant shoes. I took them straight out of the cardboard-free box and wore them on the course for three consecutive rounds, and never had a break-in period. No blisters, soreness, or achy feet afterwards.

While the 9mm tread makes the Heathlander golf shoe an on-course shoe only – not an all-day option that can transition off the course – the soft inside, cushy insole, and padded heel pillow make for a welcoming environment for your feet during any trek of the golf course.

Heathlander Golf Shoe Performance

The 9mm tread on the Heathlander outsole is certainly beefy and very stiff. It provides ample traction in any conditions, yet is still technically a spikeless outsole. Given the stability, I’d consider the Heathlander a go-to option for wet or rainy conditions, especially against other spikeless alternatives.

The fit was spot on as well. I’ve worn a standard size 10.5 for as long as I can remember, and that size in the Heathlander fit perfectly. However, since there are no wide sizes available, Heathlander recommends people with wide feet size up a half-size.

Not only did the Heathlander provide all the traction needed for any conditions, but the waterproof build successfully kept all moisture out during my test. After a few loops in the Heathlander shoes, I have complete confidence in the brand’s 1-year waterproof warranty, and beyond.

Heathlander Drawbacks

There wasn’t anything I personally didn’t like about the Heathlander golf shoes, but there are some more general issues that I think people should consider before buying.

First is the sizing. They only come in standard sizes, no wide options. Heathlander suggests going up a half-size if you have wide feet, but something tells me that people who prefer to wear their actual size in a wider-than-standard width would find this compromise less than satisfying.

When it comes to colors, there are five different options in the Heathlander golf shoe, but the only element that actually changes is the piping on the top of the midsole. So despite five colors, there’s really only one style.

Lastly is that 9mm spikeless, yet aggressive, outsole. Again, I like it and had plenty of confidence in my connection to the ground wearing the Heathlander golf shoes, but it’s easy to see how some people may feel it’s too aggressive, or may have concerns wearing the shoes on softer greens.

For the record, both courses I played wearing the Heathlander golf shoes had pretty firm greens on the days I visited, and I didn’t notice any imprints from that outsole on the greens.

Also, if you’re a fan of the trending all day style golf shoes that are suitable for the course and whatever other activities you have planned for the day, the Heathlander doesn’t fit that box. These are only a great option for the golf portion of your day.

Comfort in a classic-looking golf shoe. Stability in a spikeless option. Breathability in a waterproof shoe. That’s what makes the Heathlander golf shoe a top performer without compromise for the proper golfer

For players who prefer to walk (maybe even carry their own bag), enjoy the style of a traditional golf shoe, prioritize comfort and traction, and play in any conditions, the Heathlander golf shoe is hard to beat.
