British golfer Gary Boyd turned professional in 2007 and won his first event on the European Challenge Tour in 2009. Boyd, who plays out of Cherwell Edge, has been ranked as high as No. 1 (2008) on the Challenge Tour.

European Tour

Boyd played in three European Tour events in 2009, as of August. He finished T23 at the Madeira Island Open and failed to make the cut at the Open de Saint Omer and the British Open. In 2008, he entered eight events, made the cut in four and finished 33rd or better in three events.

Challenge Tour

Boyd opened the 2009 season with a four-shot victory at the Tusker Kenyan Open. He's had two other Top 10 finishes--2nd at the Piemonte Open and T6 at the Scottish Hydro Challenge, through July. Boyd finished 29th on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit (money list) in 2008, including four Top 10 finishes. Though he did not win in 2008, Boyd finished 2nd at the DHL Wroclaw Open and 77 Abierto VISA del Centro 2008 presentado por Personal.

Amateur Career

Boyd played a full amateur schedule and won multiple events, including the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship (2006), which he considered his best amateur victory. He was selected Northamptonshire Sport Local Sportsman of the Year in 2006. In 2007, Boyd shot a course-record 64 at Royal Cinque Ports during English Amateur Qualifying.


Born on October 4, 1986, in Banbury, England, Boyd is a rabid Manchester United soccer fan. He currently resides in Middleton Cheney, England. Asked in European Tour Q&A what his dream foursome would be, Boyd responded: Tiger Woods, Megan Fox and Eva Mendes.

Fun Facts

Boyd is an "ambassador" for the Ian Poulter Design golf apparel line, which he wears when he plays, and is sponsored by Ping. Before committing to play golf seriously, Boyd also played cricket.
