Quail's Run-Richland Center

This scenic course is built on the side of a hill on the edge of Richland Center, WI. This is a relatively short course with the difficulty being created by the extreme slopes, deep ravines, mature trees, and the small size and contours of several of the greens.

The clubhouse includes a small pro-shop, a decent restaurant with weekly specials, and some locker-room changing facilites in the lower level. As of fall 2005 there were no beverage carts on the course itself, although my understanding is that new management has taken over this course in the past few years which explains the some of the improved conditions since 2004.

A motorized cart is recommended for most golfers unless you are use to hiking good sized hills, like the ones found in the Driftless Region of SW Wisconsin.

A small deeply cut creek runs through the course coming into play on the 2nd, 8th, and 9th holes. Holes 3 and 4 also require you to hit over a pond.

Holes of note are the 2nd, 4th, and 9th.

The 2nd hole is a very short par 4 with a deep creek ravine in front of a 3 tiered (steps actually) green that will test your putting skills.

Hole 4 is a 390 some yard par 4 that runs laterally along the side one of the hills this area is known for. The sloped fairway leads to a very narrow elevated green located on a platform on the side of the bluff. There are no flat areas on this hole which has an astronomical slope rating and little forgiveness for errant shots. You'll be thankful you rented the motorized cart for this hole alone.

The 9th finishing hole is beautiful rolling par 4 with a deep creek that cuts in front of the tee box, runs left alongside fairway and then in front of the green which sits off to the left. Some hitters may actually note that the cluhouse comes into play on their second shots as it also looms alongside the creek.

This is a nice, challenging, and inexpensive course to play. A great value if you are vacationing in the region, or just passing through and have your clubs.
