In Spring of 2007, Milwaukee County made some modifications to the course that has increased its difficulty and length. This is a good course at a great value.

Currie Golf Course

Currie Golf Course is a nice open golf course that offers some great challenges to beginning and intermediate golfers. The main dificulties on this course are deep rough, mature trees, some lateral water hazards, and killer hills on the 9th and 18th holes. Currie is also the home of one of the few indoor, open-year-round driving ranges in the area.

Most of Currie Golf Course is wide open, although its par 4 distances will have the average golfer grabbing a low to middle iron (3,4,5,or 6) rather than an 8, 9 or wedge on their second shot. The sand on this course, when present, does not come into play except on a few holes. Water only comes into play on 3 or 4 holes. The 16th and 18th holes require you to drive over it.

This course has 3 par 5s, two on the front and 1 on the back. The 3rd hole is flat, wide, straight, & plays around 500 yds. Trees line the right, and a swamp, trees, and the Interstate guard the left.

The 9th hole is short par 5 which requires you to drive your tee shot up a ski-hill. The hole then dog-legs left to a small domed green protected by some of the few sand traps that come into play on this course. A large landmark tree on fairway's left edge and some dense forest prevent most attempts to shorten the hole up.

The 12th hole is a flat 480 yd dog-leg right with trees and deep rough guarding both sides. The sparse trees on the right only appear easily navigable.

Another hole of note on Currie is the 360 yd Par 4 18th. Teeing over a creek the hole plays straight, but the last 150 yards go straight up a ski-hill to a small domed green on the right. It is best to lay up your tee shot to the bottom of the hill (about 200yds out) and hit a firm iron up the hill to the green. You don't want to be playing any shots half way up this hill.

Currie's clubhouse is one of the better ones in the Milwaukee Municipal System. It does have a small pro-shop area and a nice sitting lounge. They also serve burgers and brats from their grill.

Recently Currie Park added an indoor driving range in the form of an air filled dome which sits on the acreage just West of the clubhouse. The dome is open year round and charges based on time, not by the bucket. They do have warm up specials for folks who want to hack at a few before playing their round. Once again this is all charged by time, not by the number of balls.

Currie has a nice layout although the scenery is nothing exceptional.

The course is generally well maintained however, it has never drained all that well making it very soggy during the spring and after major rainstorms. Areas of the back nine run along a local creek which floods each spring making several of the holes inaccessible. Check the local weather before playing.
