Let me start by saying, this is the first time on July 2, 2020.

Cost: I used my Tee Time Golf Pass Book and being over 60, I paid $36.00. Regular Weekday senior rate is $45.00. Not much savings but every little bit helps. The young guys I played with that didn't have the book had to pay $70.

Fortunately I have the Tee Time Golf Pass Book and being 60, the Senior rate was only $36.

Staff: The staff was very nice; however, the starter could have had a bit more personality.

Fairways: The fairways were in excellent condition. It was obvious that they are very well maintained.

Tee Boxes: Again, excellent condition.

Bunkers: This is a different story. Most of the traps should have been played as Ground Under Repair (GUR). With the removal of bunker rakes thanks to COVID-19 it can be understood that traps are probably going to be less then desirable. Some of the traps had what appeared to be little to no sand in them. It didn't appear as if they had made any effort to try and make them playable.

Scenery: The scenery was nice. Not what I would consider overly beautiful, but nice. There are houses that line some of the fairways but they seemed to be hidden by trees etc.

Signage: Signage was excellent. Only missed one turn and that was because I was looking for my cart partners ball.

Overall: I was extremely pleased with this course. I am definitely going to try and play it again in the future.

Recommendation: Play this course. It's worth the money.

The course itself is in good condition and the greens are always well manicured. However, the total experience is terrible. I have played three times (all with seriously reduced rates via coupons) and I have yet to finish in under 6 hours. The pro shop is OK, but there is an attitude like you are playing Augusta National?!?! It is $86 for 18 with a cart on the weekends!! $86 for 6 hours - ridiculous. This course should be $45 at MOST. The odd thing is that even with the ridiculous rates, there is ALWAYS a log jam of people trying to play this course. I just cannot figure it out. I suppose the D.C. crowd makes their way out, as most everyone in the Norhern VA. area is aware of the 'Reston National Shake Down' One other annoying feature is that the 18 rate is the same as the 9 rate. Some co-workers wanted to pop over after work for a quick evening 9, and they wanted $50 something dollars! I just can not recommend this course.

I played nine holes this evening with my weekly ladies league and felt it was just right (if not on the long side) for a beginner like myself. Sufficient bunkers 'round the greens (I happen to enjoy sand play, so the more bunkers the better), which is fab. The GPS on the carts was a very useful reference on each of the holes played. Overall, RNGC was quite attractive and well maintained for a municipal course. One exception: the seventh hole had what appeared to be a canada goose sanctuary on it, so navigating the birds and their poo (a number of challenging "poo lies" on this hole) was more problematic than the actual hole itself. I found the need to thoroughly sanitize my left golf shoe and my sand wedge as a result of a very heroic 80-yard shot. The pro shop staff members were very kind-especially the handsome bloke at the front counter. Now, if they could just get rid of that friggin' poo, I'd give this course 4 stars! 35 for 9 holes isn't dirt cheap, but alas, 'tis golf...

this golf course is the slowest I have ever played, and extremley overpriced. With horrible service and employees that are horrible

Reviewed April 29, 2008

This course is extremely overpriced. $75 for the weekday is way too high for any course, but when the bunkers play like sidewalks, the greens are bumpy and covered with leaves and twigs, mowing and spraying are going on in midday and slowing play and range balls aren't included it makes me really wonder how they demand such a price. If you are going to charge what an upscale does, then at least pretend like your course IS one. Pitiful.

Billy Casper, I hate you!

When I moved to the DC area in 1985, this was the best and most heavily played course in the whole area. It was always in excellent condition and the marshals used bullwhips to move everyone around at break-neck speed. Getting a tee time here was a major accomplishment. When Billy Casper's group took over in the 90's, I put up with the higher price because I loved playing this course. After a few years of his managment running the place into the ground and high prices beating up my bank account, I quit playing it. It makes me wish Billy Casper would have lost The Masters playoff to Gene Litler back in the 60's.
