Absolutely beautiful course. Great scenery. Great conditions. Not a good course for weekend "hackers" or tourist golfers. If you can play golf, you will like this course. Very impressed. Cant wait to play there again. As far as being in the sticks, good, keeps the pretend golfers away!!!!

I played this course @ 6 years ago and was anxious to get back. I was totally disapointed with the current conditions of the course, the staff, and a hyper dog roaming the club house without a leash.

Top notch all the way. In my opinion its the best in the Harrisonburg area.

Very poor customer service. The place gets no business and is understaffed. It is located way out in the middle of NOWHERE!!!!!!!! I mean NOWHERE!!!!!!!!!! The set up is ridiculous and stupid. Kind of like a golf putt putt course. A real waste of money and a huge waste of time. Save yourself the trouble and play somewhere else.

My wife and I played this course on a Sunday morning in October, just before peak season for the leaves to change. It was incredible. Let me elaborate:
1) We had an early tee time and played 18 as a twosome. No one was closer than three holes behind us all day. I had time to enjoy each shot, and even some time to do some practice shots with more than one ball. We still finished in 4.5 hours at our own slow pace. No waiting, no rushing.
2) The course design is mountain golf with a fine mixture of challenging holes and easier holes. The tees allow you to set yourself a huge challenge or a liesurely round. The hole placement on a Sunday was pretty well done for weekend warriors who don't want to three putt every green, while still offering a you challenge.
3) The course was in great shape. There are some drainage issues around some of the downhill greens, but nothing major.
4) The scenery is spectacular! I don't mean nice, I don't mean pretty I mean it may be the best placed course outside of Wintergreen and Homestead for mountain Virginia.
5. The value of the greens fees and the cart rental was absolutely the best in the area. Its competitors cannot offer a similar experience for the price.

6. The food is a bit overpriced, and the phone to call in orders from the 9th hole was not working. These are the only "downs" I can see in the whole experience.

I would recommend this course to anyone and when we return with friends in late spring, I expect to play here once a day for a week!

I have golfed this course for the last three years on vacation and it is a definite must for any golfer. Beautiful scenery and a challenging course make for a great round. Will be returning in three weeks and can't wait to play Packsaddle Ridge again. Take a minute and enjoy the view from the 13th hole, absolutely awesome. I have played a lot of courses and this is by far one of the most beautiful and we always have to play it more than once while we are there. As someone noted, a true hidden gem!

This is a fantastic course and fantastic value. A wonderful mountain layout with great views, this is truly a hidden gem. I've never played a crowded round.

March 2, 2008; between the interstate and the course, some unpaved road will make you wonder whether you made the right decision to play here! Do not be discouraged- it WILL be worth it!! Perhaps it was because of the time of year that I could not give this course ALL of the 5 stars which I think it deserved but our group THOROUGHLY enjoyed this course. Not to be chauvanistic but the wives LOVED the course so you KNOW it had to be good!! To us, savoring the view atop the 13th green alone was worth the trip! Magnificent is the only word that comes to mind. Although the condition of the greens was not "up to par", I'm sure they will improve with warm weather. We WILL return...and bring/send more of our friends to this wonderful course!!!The rest of our thoughts are identical with Greg- Greencastle. The ONLY NEGATIVE COMMENT I HAVE IS THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE COFFEE ON OUR VISIT!!! Thank you Packsaddle!!

Bring your camera and your straight game. Don't get to freaked out over the first hole with what seems like a 20 yard wide fairway. It gets better in a hurry. But you are well advised to bring a dozen or two extra balls just in case that nasty slice gets too wicked. Beautiful views from an elegant course with stunning holes. Great value.

Grand! You enter the property lined on both sides of the road with white fences, then into the woods where statues greet you, and then to one of the largest club houses you will ever see at a public course. It looks and feels more like a tourist information center. The staff inside couldn't have been more friendly! I used my tee time golf pass, so got a real value out of my day. Played in a soaking rain, so had the course pretty much on our own- which I'm sure is rare. Very beautiful course with a number of challenging holes...just had one of those days when the shots were going well so my difficulty score might be low. Missed the view atop the 13th hole but have seen many pictures. Some serious elevation changes to compensate for. Lots of rocks everywhere...all from the area. The covered bridge over a ravine on 14 was awesome too. But the clubhouse captures your eye on numerous opportunites...sitting high on a knob majestically overlooking the surroundings. I highly recommend this course!
