For me I don't know if there is a better valued course for the cost in the Area. On weekdays it's never too crowded, it's properly maintained. And laid back.

this course is short and fun. on the pro side . . . fairways are always in great shape, greens are a bit slow. free food and beer if youre in the loyalty club (membership is free), usually let you play a second round for freen if its not busy, course drains really well after the rain, lots of birdie/par opps for average players here. on the con side . . . can get get buggy in the late Spring, when it gets backed up it really gets backed up. all greenside bunkers were redone in may/june 2011.

Penderbrook isn't really as bad as the other reviews have made it out to be. I have seen MUCH worse as far as staff and playing conditions at nearby courses in Northern Virginia at about double the greensfees. That's not to say that I don't have my complaints. A major downfall is that there are WAY too many houses that come into play here, and the course is quite gimmicky. It is obvious that they chopped up the course to build the houses and kind of threw it back together (I heard this took place in the late 80's). With that said, there are a few great holes here that werent affected by the development, and in my opinion make the course worthwhile (10, 14, 15 to name a few). I just wish I had a chance to play here before it was changed.

My favorite thing about Penderbrook, though, is if you sign up for a free players pass thing, you get 2 free beers with every round of golf. So overall, I give it a solid 3 stars for just being a course to come as you are and have fun.

The staff is the worst I have ever seen. The owners of this golf course should clean house.I will never come within ten miles of Penderbrook.

Not in good shape most of the time. No marshall in the course, resulting in slow play. OK course for me.

This place is a crapper.... it's poorly kept and virtually no money is put into it. Not to mention the staff is a bunch of children all under 25 including the general manager and tournament director. They are lazy and rude and act like customers are not worth their while. Personally I think the place should be gutted in every sense and start fresh. The course itself has a challenging layout so it is a shame to see it so poorly managed. Unfortunately because none of the staff want to take initiative and marshall to keep the pace of play and avoid long backups, a round that normally takes 3-4 hours takes 6 hours to finish. Golfing here is pretty similar to Chinese water torture. I know I will never come back I rather spend double the money and go elsewhere and actually enjoy my round of golf!

Lot of course bashing going on here, which is a little surprising. I played there yesterday after getting an email from them announcing great weekday rates for all you can golf, to include breakfast and lunch. They do have a starter but I saw no marshall. They paired my friend and I up with a twosome and said we would tee off early. We had a 2:37 tee time and ended up teeing off at 2:40. Don't know where we would have been with our original tee time. Pace of play improved until we got to the first par three, where we were three deep waiting to tee off. A lot of the delays on the front nine were caused by folks looking for balls that were lost just because they missed the fairway and the rough was ridiculously high and thick. It was much more reasonably cut on the back nine. Although there are 150 yd stakes on every hole, finding refined yardage markers on sprinkler heads was impossible. No permanent yardage markers on tee boxes can lead you to choose the wrong club on the par threes, depending on where the tee box is located. On one par 3, the yardage marker said 135 (over water) and my 135 yard club reached the woods that were 40 yards beyond the green. Other than that, the greens and fairways were immaculate. Once again, can't beat the rate, if you are on their email list that send you the discounted tee times.

Made reservation on line for 4 at 10:15 am 9/18/08. 2 buddies canceled the morning and the Pro Shop "dude" charged me $96 for my round ($32 times 3) because as he said they could not fill those spots and "he did not care if I or anyone else ever came back to Penderbrook". He was "sick and tired of people cancelling out". The starter put us two out 30 minutes ahead of time and paired us with 2 walk ons. Pro Shop "dude" told the starter that I was just *hit out of luck when he complained about the charge to the "dude".

I went back in pro shop after my round and "dude" was gone and young man in shop did give me 2 rain checks for future rounds.

Back-ups common due to no marshalls helping to keep up pace. Many people here take way to long looking for lost balls and just poor golf manors. A twosome cut into play in front of us on the ninth (across from club house) and took about 45 minutes to play their second shot on the hole because they were talking on cell phones and not playing. No marshalls to help with them cutting in.

Course maintenance is getting better I think. Prices not bad but attitude of shop "dude" should keep you away.

Went there day before 4th of July. I remembered paying $60 last year but it was $40 to play this time. This course is not worth $60. Doesn't matter who designed and who manages this facility. So $40 was fair price for this course. DO NOT PAY OVER $40 FOR THIS COURSE!!!

they never had enough of riding carts. I had to wait others to finish 18 hole and grab one. NO STARTER! I had to ask other players' tee time so we all know who's going after who. NO MARSHAL! played front 9 about 3hrs+. Hole #5, there was 3 groups(included mine) waiting to tee off. Almost saw fight at hole #9 because inexperienced golfers who played from Blue Tee.

only person works at Penderbrook was cart lady + snack bar lady between hole #9 and #10. It's shamed that this course was designed by Ed Ault and Arnold Palmer management manages.

I was very disappointed with this course. Even though I paid 40 dollars in my opinion this course isn’t worth $40. It is poorly run and it wasn’t in that good of shape at all. I see the comment before be said it used to be 60 dollars that must have been when they had a starter and maintenence crew. Once they fired them they must have lowered their price. It’s a shame because it is in a good location in a nice community.
I went out with my friends one day and almost got in a fight with an old man because PENDERBROOK put us out in the middle of a tournament. WALKING because there were no carts. The old man said he paid a couple hundred dollars to play that course. Well let me tell you… HE GOT RIPPED OFF because I had a coupon to play for 30 and it still wasn’t worth it.
I WOULD ONLY RECCOMENT THIS COURSE IF YOU WANT TO WASTE A WHOLE DAY DOING SOMETHING. If you want to find something that can keep you out roughly about 6+ hours go there.

I could see myself really enjoying this course but the backups are unbearable. Expect a very long round when you play here. I have a house in the Penderbrook community but find myself going to other, better managed courses instead (Twin Lakes, for example). It's a shame really. Wouldn't it be a good idea to suggest that Arnold Palmer play a round on Penderbrook to experience the delays for himself.
