Very picturesque golf course. Ive played quite a few rounds there. Played my Dad, iwon that day which seemed not to happen to often. In august I shot an astounding 79 the calendar year 2007. A very undulating course with some challenging holes that will test your golfing medal. I love the par 5 2nd and the par 5 18th. Im 45 now and im hoping I can fit in a round today. Then escape the rain. The staff is nice and the food is good. With also a choice of fine tournaments to play if you want to. Brian Stack

I maybe play this course once or twice a year depending on my time and the condition of the course. It is a nice course when maintained has quite a few good holes. Holes 10-13 are the best set of holes on course. It can be a long course and difficult if playing from the blue tees. White tees makes it more playable for the average golfer. That is when the course is in good shape. I played the 1st week of october and even though the greens hadn't fully come back from the end of summer airaiding (sp)most of the greens were playable. But the rest of the course was not and by shape and condition of the tees, it wasn't maintained well at all and for a while. On this day, I usually would play 36 holes, but after paying for 18 holes on this course, this year, I could only choke down 18. Whoever maintains this course should not be maintaining a golf course because he/she does not know what they are doing. For a course to get in this bad a shape in a year is inexcusable. I do not see this course recovering in a year, say the least I will not be playing this course again for a while, and neither should you. Go play putt putt and you will have a better experience.

Played there today, read the previous reviews and was a little apprehensive. I was pleasantly surprised. It is a nice course with a friendly staff. The course was in a good shape with the exception of the 10th green. I will say by mid-July the fairways may be a little brown but today they were cut-well with minimal bare spots. Plenty of water on this hot, hot day. The only negative was the slow foursome in front of us. It was somewhat crowded so be prepared to wait some. Got a great rate on discount golf site, decided to try it and I am glad we did.

For a fairfax public course it is great! I started playing here this year around August and was pleasantly surprised at the long holes, wide fairways. I think the greens are the slowest greens in VA but really. It is a nice course to play. I am excited to play here!

Recently played the course and was pleasantly surprised. Course was in very good shape! I would recommend this course and will play again. It may be a bit overpriced but if you can find a discount then highly recommended.

First of all this was a huge mistake to play, over priced for the poor conditions. Staff was rude, especially one fellow on the maintenance staff! I agree with the bellow comments if it is the same fellow, he needs to be reprimanded. His attitude is not what I expected when he was in the wrong. Now I will say there where five holes on this course that had a much better appearance than the rest, a few greens where is less than bellow avererage conditions. I will keep playing Pohick Bay and the Osprey. In my mind this course needs a lot of work with a new staff to manage it.

The course is in very poor shape, the greens are very bumpy and 8 and 13 should have hazard stakes on them. the tee boxes are horrible, go luck finding a flat area with grass to tee off. Sand traps are BAD, cart paths are like a off road course. The clubhouse pine tree with 2x4's helping a fallen tree stand up looks great! HA, really there are other courses that have better prices and much better playing factor! I give the superintendent a F along with who ever the manager is also. Please take note and play else where!!!!!

This has to be the worst course EVER! First off the crew does not look like they are professional and there is a old guy on the crew is very RUDE! From what i gathered he is the father of the assistant manager, typical county government. I was trying to put and the old guy drover fast buy my ground with a loud cart that backfires, when I said something to him he barked at me and said take it up with the management!
The reason I put the difficulty high was your are hitting off dirt and rocks, number 8 and 13 green are very bumpy and plugs from bad areas where not level. Tee boxes where not level and the placement of tee markers are like hitting off craters on the moon. As I am playing I noticed what appears to be the superintendent ridding the course with his dog and the dog pooped by a tee box and was never cleaned up. His cart looks like it should be on hoarders, plus there is a storage pill of trash next to 10 fairway.
All in all DO NOT PLAY HERE, waste of money and sure of waste of tax payers money. County should be ashamed! And for the old guy who is there working because of family, he needs to learn manners and should be FIRED!

Waste of time and money. The greens were unplayable more than a week after aeration: unfilled punch holes, crabgrass, and bare patches made them worse than a temp green. No discount was offered only a sign indicating they were punched recently. I was told, "they are not too bad." Also the tee boxes were nearly bare on many holes.

Wow, reviews below are a little harsh. The greens are certainly the weak point of the course, always far too the point of sometime being ridiculous. However, Greendale does offer a fun layout and is a fair test of golf in a area that lacks any public courses. Its a fun track that can yield low scores or make you pay harshly for mistakes. My experience with the staff has always been great, unlike the review below I feel that golfers should be pushed along on municipal courses or we'd have to suffer through 5.5 hour rounds.

Course is maintained poorly, the greens are mowed to high they look like shag carpet. They way to bumpy, the ball will break 5 times on a flat lie and they are way to slow. The drainage is not enough, you always are playing in super wet conditions. Tee boxes are bad, divots every where. There are drainage lines that covered with gravel that is level with the grass, # 17 is the worse. The drain runs from the green to the cart path with gravel that is level to the grass, hope your ball doesn't land in one. The cart paths are bad, one section the blacktop is gone and they use wood chips in its place. The clubhouse and holes close to it look ok but when you get to play its bad. Not worth the money, take my advice play somewhere else! POOR MAINTANCE! County should close it up or sell it off!

The course is ok, decent layout, good for novices. It could use a better drainage system though. I played it a couple of days after it had rained but despite the time between the weather and play there was still standing water on most of the fairways on the front nine so don’t count on hitting a good second shot from the fairways on the front nine because you will be hitting out of puddles. The sand traps are, needless to say, garbage; half of them had wasp infestations from a lack of grooming and the ones that didn’t were harder than concrete. Also, the designer apparently thought it would be fitting to through what look to be pin flags on the fairways! They provide no advantage for beginners or experienced golfers and actually confuse your reference of distance on the course; you cannot tell if they are marking the beginning of a dog leg, a water hazard, out of bounds, or a part of the course that is being restored. All in all they are very disadvantageous to the golfer. Also, don’t the score cards alert you of any upcoming hazards so what’s with the dummy flags? The price is also a little steep, 35 for 18 holes plus cart fees, for this mediocre public course.

Customer service:

Awful!!! I may not be the best golfer in the world but the one thing holds true anywhere you play golf is that it is supposed to be a leisure sport and people should be allowed to play at their own pace. When my group arrived and checked in we were immediately rushed to the tee box and told that we would miss our tee time if we did not hurry, despite being early because we had planned on warming up but there was no place to do so. Once on the tee box we waited for the group in front of us to get a fair distance down the fairway before teeing off but apparently the starter was not happy with our pace and told us to "speed it up" and kept up the attitude while we all teed off rushing us through the process. This attitude was mirrored buy a majority of the staff. So, if you do not heed my warning and decide to play this course anyways be prepared to be stacked on top of other golfers so you must play slower but you will continually be rushed through the course, an oxymoron I know but they did it. They apparently do not know how to plan prudently.

Nice course if your local. Greens slow and bumpy. The front nine in better shape. Overall enjoyed it and will play it again. We rode, but will walk it next time. Price is inline with other courses, and is ok value.

Played this course many times - mainly due to its location. Perfect for when we wanted to play a last minute round. NEVER AGAIN WILL I PLAY HERE. Was accosted on the 13th fairway by the ranger, only after having called for him...We were waiting 15 - 20 minutes between every shot. 4 hrs and 45 minutes into the round and only on our second shot of #13. Almost came to blows with the rude and worthless ranger. Offered a 9 hole rain check. Worst experience ever.

The course is an OK layout, however the greens are historically some of the worst I have ever seen. It is a shame really, becasue with just a little better maintenance this could be a nice muni course...

Great course if you want an easy round with few challenges. Greens are slow and not very well maintained. Some holes are flat out ugly. I enjoy it because it is close to my house and an easy course to walk as that adds to my exercise and time away from the stress of everyday life.
