My father-in-law and I have played this course over 100 times easily. We can honestly say that the quality of the course has gotten noticeably worse over the past couple years. It is hard to justify paying $30 to play on a course where the greens are half dead, the fairways have no irrigation so they are dead most of the year, bunkers are in rough shape with weeds, and the clubhouse is a wreck. We used to love to play this course and the layout is still fantastic. Although, the upkeep of the course has gone down hill and it is prevalent from the time you pull up to the club house.

this course is a mother nature's course but it is very fun and challenging to golfers of any skill level. Dont let the length of the course fool you. You can not just bang your driver around and score well. Coming in from certain angles is very critical to getting the ball in the hole in par or better. If your game is not top notch you will not break par. Stay below the hole and your will be satisfied with your score at this course. This course has one fairway bunker and 13 green side bunkers. The par three's are very senic and are very reasonable with yardage and difficulty. The par five's are not real long but just long enough to keep you from making birdie if you don't hit three nice shots on the holes. This course is the perfect course for the average golfer!!!

In response to the last review of the course, I have a few things to say. First, we have little to no crabgrass on the course, and certainly did not in 2007. We do have a good deal of dallisgrass and sedges, however. Additionally, the terrible review was written during the worst drought to hit West Tennessee in the last 20 years. Many courses in the area with "smooth, fast" bentgrass greens lost a great many of them that summer. Our greens survived the year because we kept them a bit "shaggy". This is certainly not the worst course ever. If you typically play 5-star courses with barely a weed on them, you'll be dissappointed with "The Lake". If you enjoy a challenging links-style layout where mother nature dictates playing conditions, Carroll Lake will fit your eye nicely.

worst course ever

Me and a buddy took a golf trip through tennessee and kentucky and stopped in McKenzie to play this course. It was by far, the low point of the trip. The greens were in terrible shape, being shaggy and hard to get a decent roll on. Bunkers were washed out, fairways had crabgrass throughout, it was an embarrassment. We wanted our $28 back.
