Great looking course with some amazing views. They definitely care about upkeep as there were maintenance staff on many holes taking care of minute jobs (picking up pine combs, trimming grass around sprinkler heads, etc.).

I fell in love with this course. I truly know what a course is supposed to look like now.

We visited Myrtle Beach for a few days at the end of February 08'. The weather was cool and the courses weren't too crowded. We played Grande Dunes on 02/22 under the threat of rain, but finished our round in just over 4 hours with nary a drop. Grande Dunes overseeds their fairways and greens, but allows the rough to remain dormant. This really helped to define the fairways, which was a plus, as none of us had played here before. The greens and fairways were in nice shape, in spite of the recent drought that has plagued the area. The staff were friendly and accomodating. The carts were electric (g.p.s. equipped) and well maintained. It had rained heavily the night before, so the bunkers were packed pretty hard, but were otherwise decent. The course doesn't play terribly difficult if you take a conservative approach and stay within yourself. Expect everything to play 1 to 2 clubs longer, depending on the wind. There are some very pretty holes that play along the waterway, but most wind through the development. NOTE: If you need to use the restroom and find the door locked, use your cart key to open the door. I'm not sure why they find it necessary to lock the rest room doors when you are playing in an exclusive community where the home sites START around 1 mil., but I guess there must be a reason. ALSO NOTE: The starter told us there might be discrepancies between our cart g.p.s. units and the sprinkler heads. He said we should trust the g.p.s. units if there was a difference. We also carry garmin golflogix units, and found them to support the cart g.p.s. units on most occasions...

Nice course, lots of potential and LONG off the back.

Didn't know what to expect on this baby after reading mixed reviews. After I played it however, I thought it was one of the nicer courses in Myrtle if you can get over the fact that you're playing in neighborhoods of rich folks. Be very careful when selecting tees on this course, I usually play the backs and even on this baby I went up one set of tees and still had to use all the tools in the bag. I'm not sure if it was the wind or what, but I can't remember how many driver-3/4 irons I pulled out on par 4s and I can hit the ball fairly long. The condition of the course is quite good and the greens are very playable. Overall, if you don't mind playing through neighborhoods instead of the natural areas at other courses, it's a very nice course to play, although a bit spendy.

I'd play it again, but for the price I'd go to Barefoot Fazio and Tidewater a few times before this joint.

Tough but fair...

Unless you catch it on a VERY windy day as we did. Choose the correct tees for your game and it can be very enjoyable.
