This course is pure garbage. Don't even think about playing it after it rains. With all the bumps and slopes, water piles up in the fairways and different areas of the course (no drainage at all...hell, no grounds crew). There are much nicer courses in the area for the money they charge. Even if you live near by, it's worth driving somewhere else.

GARBAGE. They took a nice piece of property, put a 1/2 way decent course on it and RUINED it by neglecting EVERYTHING. The greens? Crap. The fairway/rough? Crap. Save your money and go to a driving range, it will be in better shape than this place.

They should rename this place Summit Bumps. Immediately after my round here, I was fitted for a halo from all the jostling my neck took riding around this hell hole. If my neck didn't twist from the ride up to the green, it was mangled from viewing the hills and rolls the once-flat greens. If I had a choice of what would come first, a straight putt at Summit Bumps or $2 a gallon gas, I would bet Texaco. Brutal morning that I am still paying for today.

This course has potential it's a shame the owners could careless about it and are too busy spending their time at CC of Scranton. In the beginning of the season the course isn't a bad play and can offer a fun round of cheap golf. The front 9 is the more difficult of the two 9's but rather boring IMO. Hole #2, #5 and #8 aren't bad but the others are pretty unimaginitive with #9 being one of the worst holes ever created. It's a dogleg right and the fairway slopes severely to the left and in the summer you can't hold the fairways and often times the ball will roll into a pond. The back 9 is a lot more enjoyably IMO but rather short. However #10 is once again one of the worst designed holes ever thought up. It's a 520 yard par 5 uphill but has the same pond that borders 9 200-215 yards out and if you try to carry the pond you're ball will ultimately run into a rock bed 10 yards beyond the creek. After #10 the back if has some fun holes, 11 is scnenic little par 3, 12 and 13 are fun risk/reward par 4's if you decide to cut the doglegs. I haven't played here in a couple years and based on previous reviews nothing much changed. I would recommand Pine Hills and Emanon over SHGC if you're in the immediate area for the same price.

Greens are in TERRIBLE shape. The front nine have a weird fungus on them and the back nine are burnt. The tee boxes don't have alot of grass on them and are in poor shape. The course is in need of alot of maintenance. The only good part of this course is the price.

Nice public course for the $

The fairways play well, but the greens are dried up. Could use to be maintained better.

Summit Hills golf

My regular Thursday foursome often travels an hour or so from our home (Binghamton N.Y. area) to play different courses. We have played Summit Hills 4 times from October 06' to December 07'. We keep coming back because the course is affordable, reasonably well maintained (it IS winter) and has some REALLY nice views. It's also a well laid out design with some difficult holes. Overall, the fairways are generous and bunker free. Water comes into play on a handful of holes and some do require you to "thread the needle" off the tee. The elevation changes are dramatic and truly help to make this a shotmakers course. We are looking forward to coming back in the summer. I should note that the snack bar upstairs was closed for the season, so I could only give an amenities rating based on what was available to us.
