Interesting course in between the two halves of the Sprain Brook Parkway.

Sprain Lake is one of the Westchester County owned courses - a nice short 18 hole layout in Yonkers right off of the Northbound Sprain Brook Parkway. The course from the tips only measures about 6100 yards. From the whites, it only measures about 5700 yards. There are quite a few par 4s under 300 yards from the whites, so scoring one of your better rounds is a good possibility here.

The course is hilly and features several dogleg holes. There is a small creek that gobbles up mis-hit ground balls on 4 holes or so. Sprain Lake comes into play on a few other holes. Notable holes include hole 3, a par 4 that features a steep drop into the green. Hole 11 is an elevated par 4 sharp dogleg right. A fun course.

On the day I played (Monday, April 27), the course was undergoing extensive aerating work and there were quite a few temporary greens. That is April golf for you. The staff gave this nonresident the resident rate as compensation.

The chicken sandwich at the Sprain Grill was excellent. Much better than normal golf course food.

A recommended play if you are in the area.

this was the most aggravating round of golf i have ever played, and it wasnt because of my play. the staff in the clubhouse were slow and obnoxious. they made me pay for my round at one desk, and walk over to another one to buy a glove. the play was extremely slow, the starter told us he would get out on the course to speed play up and he never did. the greens were spongy, the rough nearly non existent. the sprinklers were going on every single tee. a couple times they surprised me, i got soaked, my clubs and cart got soaked. i will reiterate, a horrible round of golf. course was very easy. many holes you can drive the green on

i would call this course nice, but would never call it difficult. I had a bad day due to poor short game, but its really not very tight at all as a previous poster mentioned.. Definately a few doglegs and a couple of potential forced carries though I would think that all but the biggest of hitters would be choosing to lay up. Greens are the most difficult part of the course, pretty good undulations and some of them are quite small. They have a nice little practice range with good targets to hit too and a pretty well stocked pro shop equipment wise for a small golf course. Saw them selling Vokey wedges for $100 almost bought one! Conditions were excellent considering it's middle of winter and last week the place was covered with snow. Will definately play again. Very walkable course.

difficult course with a few dog leg rights and lefts. Plenty of sand bunkers and a lake you must hit over on the 11th hole. Overall a nice place to really get your game on.

Sprain Lake

Very well maintained County owned course. Not too expensive and plenty of nice holes on the water (also plenty of opportunities to go in it).
