Bergen Point is a difficult course because there are a lot of water hazards and it is a fairly long course. It is not in great shape and I much prefer to play somewhere else. If you are a suffolk county resident you can get good value here however.

BPnt is not a bad course to get out quickly for a 4.5 hr round; less the earlier you play. LI golfers know well the hassel and wait times for more desireable tracks.
Bergen offers a links like layout and the putting greens are generally good and consistent thruout the year. If you are looking for amenities and aesthetics, look elsewhere. Basic golf at best. A challenge when the wind is blowing. Agreed, the geese and their droppings can be unsightly, not to mention unsanitary.

It is not a bad course. I have never been happy w/ it. It has got better over time.

Bergen Point Improves

The wind is usually blowing at this flat muni near the Great South Bay. Condition of the greens is very good. Course appearance has been improved by clearing brush from around the many water hazards. Two tees have been redone. The fairways have also improved since irrigation system leaks were repaired, however, there are still bare patches. The course is low and does not drain well. Geese love the place and at times their droppings can be overwhelming. The adjacent sewage treatment plant is slight detraction, moreso when the wind is blowing the wrong way.

There is an adequate driving range and putting green, but chipping is not allowed. The pro was replaced in June of 2007 by Dennis Downs, who seems to be more golfer-friendly. Bring water because there is none on the course ($2 for a small bottle at the snack bar), and you don't want to drink from the cooler outside the proshop (yeh, it's been like that for years). The snack bar serves only bagels and rolls for breakfast, but the bar has a nice menu for lunch or after your round.
