Played on Labor Day 2013, not a fan. Too many blind shots, too many waste bunkers, greens were sorry. I would call this a failed experiment. All who voted it a great course, you can have it.

Easily top 3 favorite courses to play. Scenery is wonderful. Very difficult course. Played the worst here on our golf trip but was by far my favorite. Definately want to come back and play all the back at the ripper tees. Well worth the trip to play here. Staff very friendly and helpful...most have a yardage book to play this course.

This is my second favorite course I have ever played. TPC Sawgrass is third. Laurel RIdge in Waynesville NC is first. It has some blind tee shots but on these holes the fairways are very generours around the 150. The waste areas are numerous. It is insidious in that You really need to play it 4-5 time before you start to appreciate how to navigate around.

It is flat out gorgeous.

Both times I played here the greens were slow since it was one week after they were punched. I would love to play here when the greens are running fast.

One last note, it is not as hard as its sister course Tot Hill Farm.

IF LIL' ABNER HAD WON THE POWERBALL, THIS WOULD BE DOGPATCH COUNTRY CLUB. A TRULY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE. IMAGINE 6 FLAGGS OVER GEORGIA AS A GOLF COURSE...THIS IS DAD'S FUN PARK. NICE FLAT RAISED TEE BOXES, LUSH FAIRWAYS, MANICURED GREENS BUT GOD HELP YOU IF YOU MISS THE FAIRWAY OR GREEN. SURROUNDING TERRAIN IS NICE TO LOOK AT BUT DIFFICULT TO RECOVER FROM. PLENTY OF BLIND SHOTS TO FAIRWAYS AND GREENS...DON'T FORGET TO RING THE SCHOOL BELL TO LET THE GROUP BEHIND YOU KNOW WHEN TO HIT. PLENTY OF FRIENDLY RANGER FOLKS ON THE COURSE. CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY IT AGAIN. PLAYED DISC TEES (6297 YDS) NEEDED TO PAR LAST HOLE FOR 79 ENDED WITH 81.

Course is like playing a round of minnie golf on a full scale. Needs to be a little more user friendly. Not a very good course to walk.

I played this course a year ago, but it has been calling my name ever since. Even while I was deployed to Afghanistan, I was thinking about Tobacco Road. The Staff is outstanding and they go out of their way to help you and coach you through this very difficult course. Even though I shot a 99, I loved every minute. If you are in the area, you have to play Tobacco Road.

Awesome track!!! Very hard if you get off the fairway. Hit it straight or pay the price. Must play if your in the area.

This was my 200th distinct course I have ever played and wanted my 200th to be a course that would challenge me and reward good shots and penalize me for poor ones..and Tobacco Road was the right choice. I have played all of Mike Stranz's public course on the East Coast (Tot Hill Farm....Royal New Kent...Stonehouse..etc)..and have come to truly enjoy his approach to golf. Play well..and you will score well...play poorly and your score will reflect that. The greens were fast...and large..and 60+ foot putts were not unusual. The course was well groomed and on the Wed I played it..not crowded. You knew where you had to put the ball to score well...and an errant shot had you scrambling for Par..and in my case..bogey! I played one ball the entire front nine! Not so lucky on the back nine. I played from the Discs...and the 18th hole was a wild ride on your drive from the Discs!! Great course..great test of your skills as a golfer!!

I have played this course a few times - none of which were my choice. I will not go back. Lets see.... 18 holes, and probably 40 blind shots. Severely undulating greens that you can't even see from the fairways. Par 5's with 2-3 blind shots. All you can do is read the yardage booklet; figure out the ideal distance; hit your shot, then go and "try" and find it. All Strantz' courses are tough, but this one is just not fair - it's silly.

I have golfed 82 courses across the country and this course is my #2 favorite of all of them. second only to tot hill farm. I felt like i was in a video game the whole time. incredible beauty on every hole. demanding shots everywhere. I have a photo of me in a green side bunker 30 feet below the green. That's what i call fun. any chance you have get to this track.

For anyone to say this course shouldn't be ranked in the top 100 is an idiot. This course is more of a thinkers course. I loved it and I think Michael Strantz is a genius. If you have played any of his courses you can see the artist in him as you play and see the lay-out. Straight from the opening tee shot to the closing blind tee shot you need to play smart and eliminate bad shots. My brother who is around a 16 shot a 102 and was in sand and waste areas all day. I'm a 6 and I played smart and tried to avoid big numbers and shot a 79 from the disc tees. I wish I lived in North Carolina so I could play here more often. What a beautiful and very demanding course.

This course is one you have to play. The architect did a brilliant job and it is one of my favorites.

Played Pinehurst #2 the day before, I enjoyed this round more! It's just plain fun. Staff was great and the price was fair. Listen to the starter!

I cannot believe this course is anywhere in the top 100. It is probably the second worst resort course I have played. It is not really a very difficult course as the first and only time I played it I was one stroke under my average. My take on it is that it has everything except for the "windmill and the clown". I have played numerous municipal courses around the country that are much better than Tobacco Road, both in layout and condition.

I thought i was in for the hardest round of my life here, but this course is just not that hard. First of all the fairways are huge so as long as you keep it semi straight you'll be OK. And even if you do miss the fairway or green, the bunkers are very hard and easy to hit out of. It's still a pretty nice course, but way overpriced. better deals are around at other places.
