Played Wil-Mar for the first time today. I'll definitely go back.

The Pro Shop staff was very friendly and the check-in process very quick and efficient. The driving range was adequate and the practice putting greens (there are two) were very nice.

The course has gone to Bermuda greens and they were in good condition. The tee boxes and fairways were in very good shape and overall, I'd give the course a "good" rating for conditioning. It was crowded for a Friday and yet the pace of play was very good. We played in slightly under 4 hours.

The course is relatively short: 6,120 from the blue tees. There are some short par 4's and even par five's; however, even with the shorter length, there are some challenging and enjoyable holes.

Given the senior rates charged and considering it's a "play all day rate", you would have difficulty beating Wil-Mar anywhere in this part of N.C.

The course is currently under renovations (in reality just one hole -- I believe it was the 14th). They allow you to make up the hole by playing 1 or 10 twice. Once work is complete I would bump my overall rating up a star.

Good course to go and play for cheap. Not much in the way of water hazards and the tree lined fairways allow a novice to find their mishit shots relatively easily.

Good value especially for seniors in the Fun Golfers. I like playing this course but right now the construction messes up the back nine with new sod going in on three holes. The people that work and play there are always friendly and the staff is very anxious to please you.

I've got mixed feeling about this course. Played from the blues for about the 15th time 9/20/08. It's nice to be on a course you can walk but the condition of the greens leaves a lot to be desired. Probably worth the money on a weekday rate but for the weekend rate their are courses in much better condition for the same price. Each green plays different. They let the Bermuda take over most of the Bent grass greens and it really doesn't grow well on the shady holes. Also the trees have over grown so much they interfere with shots on par 3s and in the first 50-100 yards on tee shots. They seem to employee a lot of people but I don't see them working the course, just hanging in the pro shop. Driving range it great! Fairways in good shape. So is the chicken salad.

$20 to walk 18 holes. Good deal. The greens were a bit beat up; but overall a good deal.

I had a bad experience with Wil-Mar. I'm an older woman and was taking lessons. I found the attitude of the instructor very discouraging, although she is supposed to be very good with women. She actually told me I would never play a regular course and discouraged me from playing on her course although she was very happy to take my money. I also found the members unfriendly. After taking lessons at another course I've improved greatly, play often and have made many friends. It just highlights my bad experience at Wil-Mar.

Fun But Odd

Wil-Mar is an odd course because it has three, par 5s on the back nine. However, these par 5s are reacheable in two or three allowing you to get an eagle or birdie; therefore they are fun. The course is not excessively hilly so you will not wear yourself out by walking. Overall this is a fun course, but trash cans are lacking on most holes
so you will need to carry your empty Gatorade bottles with you until you find a can.

Nice course for the money.

This is a decent course that you have to play strategy. Its not driver off every tee. I played there about a month ago and paid $35 for 18 and if you played an extra 18 all you had to pay for was the cart which is a pretty good deal. There are plenty of bunkers that come into play around the greens. This was a fun course to play.
