Played it last week in a golf package. Not in very good shape. Tee boxes were in bad shape, as were the greens. There are far better tracks to play in the pinehurst area. Dont waste your time unless its in your package.

I try to play this course every year. Just found a coupon for $39pp, so played it 7/17/09 with 2 buddies. Condition of fairways and greens were very good and a great value for the price. May go back again this month. And a shout-out to the cart girl Janine.

Some of the holes are really outstanding, but a few of the greens are really ill conceived IMHO. The greens on 8 and on the last par 5 on the back (15?) need to be blown up and rebuilt.. they are ridiculously small and not built to receive a shot. The course is more difficult than the slope would suggest. On some of the shots on the back nine there is no margin for error.

Play it and you will not be dissapointed. Tight and tuff to long and relaxing. We played 5 courses in area and this (and Tobbacco Road) were two we would play again.

I recently took a trip to this area and this was one of my favorite courses. It was in good shape when I played and it was a challenging course with some scoring opportunities. The layout was typical to the area but did have some interesting holes with nice looks. If you are visiting the area I would definitely make this a stop on your trip.

We played the Pit on 02/23/08 after having spent a few days in Myrtle Beach. We were very much looking forward to the round, and had great expectations. The course wasn't quite what we'd anticipated, but we nonetheless had an enjoyable round. Conditions were "o.k.", but not great. Considering the recent drought, however, we cut them some slack. The fairways and greens were overseeded and playable. The tee boxes were mottled and in need of leveling. Carts were electric and in nice shape (no g.p.s. though..-thank god for my Garmin). The staff were friendly and helpful. The course is somewhat narrow, and doesn't really have any out of bounds. We hit a variety of bad shots throughout the day that often rebounded into the fairway, or dropped down in an area where we had an easy out. If you play conservatively here, you'll do well.

This is one of the most unique courses in the Pinehurst area. The holes are nothing like what you will see at the Pinehurst resort, CCNC, Pine Needles, etc. The design is great, the course is well maintained, the staff is very friendly, and the course is a definite challenge.

This course definitely needs to be re-sloped, however. The tips are supposedly in the mid-120s--expect the tips to play more like 140, and the other tees to be at least +10; in other words, this course is pretty tough.

It is priced a little higher than comparable courses (Legacy, Carolina) but it is very popular in the Pinehurst area, so they can demand more money. Likewise, there are pretty consistent tee times, so expect fairly slow play (~5 hours on the weekend) and some drunk ex-frat-boys screaming every time someone in their group makes a putt from outside 8 feet :-)
