Reviewed December 31, 2008

I was a member at Meadowbrook for 4 years. Left because the aging, declining membership could not keep up with the cost to run the course and maintain the huge clubhouse. After three years of year-end assessments to make up the deficits, I had enough. Since the sold some of their land to build condos four years ago, their financial situation may be better. But there are still better courses that are more financially sound all over St Louis.

The course is a mix of some very good and very bad holes. #1 is a slight dogleg right, the problem is that hitting through the dogleg can put you into the driving range. #2 is great par 5, one of the best in St Louis. #3 is par 4 nightmare design. Only a member with a few round under his bent knows what to hit off tee, then then the pimple-like green with a massive false front is a disaster, even on a private course. Players can go back and forth across the green trying to get their ball to stop. #4 is a forgettable par 3. #5 isn't a much more memorable par 4. #6 is another great risk/reward par 5. It's the signature hole, and fun to play. #7 is a very tight, tree lined short par 4. A lot of members hated it, but I kind of like it. It seems out of place with the rest of the course design, but is drivable with the right shot. #8 is a straight-forward par 3. #9 is a hard left dogleg par 4 which requires a near perfect drive hit. #10 used to be #1, but they flipped the 9s. Good thing on this hole, because the green is the toughest on the course, and not a good starting hole. #11 is the hole that everyone hates. An uphill par 5 with trees on the right and a fairway that slopes hard to the left and a creek. It's blind up until about 150 into the green. #12 is another goofy hole with a bunker about 250 yds right in the middle of the fairway. Another uphill shot to a green that is hard to see. #13 is a radon with a very large green that is, again, hard to make out visually from the tee. #14 is another good, short par 4. #15 is a solid par 5 (its the one that runs parallel to Clayton Rd). #16 is another one of those goofy holes, if it were the only one on the course, it would be okay. A par 4 that begins sloping down to a creek about 250 yards out. Often, you are left with a downhill lie trying to hit uphill to the green. #17 is a good short par three. #18 is another forgetable par 4.

Overall, after 3 seasons, I was sick of playing the course.
