If I could I would give this course a zero or negative number. My son and daughter-in-law to me and her Dad here on father's day week. The condition of the fairways was ok, but the greens were horrible. However, all this aside, it was the staff that made this course poor. We were a foursome, and everyone else that day was playing in twosomes. We would occasionally let twosomes play through when they caught up to us. However, the course marshall came around and basically told us to play faster or skip holes. We told him we had been allowing people to play through and we would be stopping shortly (we were on hole 9) to get some lunch. He basically told us we didn't have time to stop and eat, that it wasn't acceptable for us to do that, and to get moving or get off. After that hole, we stopped and very quickly went into the clubhouse, got a candy bar, some water, and were about to leave. My son commented to the manager how he felt the response was inappropriate. We were basically told on Fridays they normally don't schedule foursomes and everyone else was playing faster as they were a twosome, and no, refunds wouldn't be offered if we wanted to just stop after nine holes. So we went on, skipped hole #10 and by the end of 18 holes, we had people catching us again. Even though we had a good time with our kids, I will NEVER play here again. The staff honestly was rude, and it was their mistake at scheduling a foursome in the middle of a bunch of twosomes. So if you do play here after reading this, I caution you to ask what types of parties will be behind you, as you will be told the same thing, hurry up or get out.

The staff and management of this course are terrible. They send people off on the 10th hole in front of you. They are arrogant and forget who the customer is. The course is fine but not worth the playing due to the way it is run. I will never go back.

This is a great track. Beautiful elevation changes. Fun and challenging. Clubhouse is nothing more than a pro shop and snack bar, but who cares? Never had an issue with the staff. Being closed on Sunday keeps this from being an elite Grand Rapids course.

Ben and Mark are right on here. I used to play here once a week after work just because of the proximity to downtown Grand Rapids. However the staff (mainly proshop) rubbed my group the wrong way continually. It's a shame because it's a nice course, well kept, but needs new management. And not open sundays??? Come on, are we running a golf course or a platform for religious beliefs? I'll gladly take the extra 15-30 minutes to drive to Quail Ridge, Pilgrims Run, Thousand Oaks or Thornapple Point and pay a little extra and enjoy myself. If you’re looking for a bargain in the area, try L.E. Kaufman. A well kept municipal with an underrated back nine....and freedom to enjoy yourself!

I have golfed The Mines as a novice golfer several times, countless times. And the course itself is awesome. Challenging, fun, pretty to look at. The clubhouse and all that isn't great, but that cannot take away from the course. I have no idea what the previous reviews are talking about when it comes to arrogance or perceived haughty attitude from the employees. I'd recommend it

Review by Mark_V dead on. All employees acted like course was above the paying public. Everyone from starter to clubhouse workers hurried us even though course was not that busy. Customer service is something they really need to work on. Course was fun, and in nice shape, but I'll never play there again.

not to shabby

Not a bad course at all. There staff makes it seem like you are playing Augusta, which is nice, but then don't make me use a 1 person bathroom that is placed in a mobile home that they call the "club house". Overall you can tell it's new, with the right owners in place, could become an excellent course.
