This course is my go-to for a reasonable round. I think it's a great deal. A lot less crowded than Falls Road, with GRASS MATS on the range (weekends only).

A very classy golf course....fairways were plush in nearly drought conditions elsewhere. No gimmics, no overly challenging holes, just straight away golf with a few traps and tree lined fairways mixed in. Very fair round and only paid $23 w/cart after 4 pm on a Saturday. Only problem was the crowd of walkers on the course at the time...round took over 4 1/2 hours to play (needed a ranger). Course a little lengthy for shorter hitters...many Par 4s near 400 yards and three par threes nearly 170 or more. With less crowd...a wonderful course to play!

I played poolesville for the first time on a windy day in May, and it is in pretty good shape.

With all the rain we've been having everything is lush, and the greens are actually running pretty true. Overall the course greatly exceeded my expectations. The course seemed to play a bit easier than the rating, because it doesn't present the golfer with blind shots, forced carries or quirky holes.

Poolesville is a great place for beginners, but experienced golfers can enjoy the scenery and classic feel of this course and shoot a nice round in the process.

Did I mention that my round today, May 17, 2009 was $22.00 to walk? This is a pretty easy course to walk 9 or even 18 because the terrain is reletively flat.

I have played a lot of the courses in the DC, NoVA, MD area, and Poolesville is up there with some of the better muni's I've played. It is on the easy side, and the amenities could definitely use an upgrade. It is farther away from the city, doesn't get as much play, and it's cheap. All in all I would recommend this course to most people looking for good value golf.

I played this course on 9/22. It's in bad shape. The drought has turned the fairways into bumpy, barren wasteland that threatens to break your club should you try to take a divot. The greens were fast and had a lot of bumps as well. The pro shop was well stocked but their clubhouse is an outdoor tent. I won't be back anytime soon.

1. Amenities-Limited food in tent. Well stocked golf shop with lots of demos.
2.Easy tee shots and approaches offset by rolling, fast greens.
3. Maintenance - Everything was great considering the drought. Not much grass in the rough.
4. Two beautiful lakes (wish they came into play), no houses on the course or around the course, nice drive down River Road. Out in the country, but only 25 minutes from DC.
5. Value - Can't get any cheaper for 6900 yards of golf.
6. I'll be back!

Typical muni

I scored my personal best of 73 here, when the wind was whipping, and it was VERY cold. The course itself won't excite you, and the greens are generally slow and in poor to fair shape. They keep it up enough for you to enjoy a round here, but just don't expect anything beyond a typical muni here. This place will always have a place in my heart, simply because I logged my best score here, but beyond that it's sort of a yawner.
