I was one of the first caddies to caddy this course at it's freshman year in 1990. I came with experience as a caddie at Beverly Country Club on Chicago's south side. I remember this course being a beautiful open design course with different tee boxes to change the hole from day to day. Hole 1 was probably one of the toughest first holes in the Chicagoland area, with the green hugging a pond to the left. I remember members and visitors always complaining about how this was a difficult hole to master, especially when they were just getting warmed up. Water usually swallowed their ball on this first hole. Hole three always seemed to have the wind at your face since you were teeing off the top of a hill. There are so many nice holes on this course, it's hard to write about them all. Hole 11 was one of my favorites, par 3 over the pond, or with the tees to the left, made it a entirely different hole. Hole 17 was another par 3, hitting over a huge ravine and steep hill. If you cut it short, it was fun (sarcasm) carrying the clubs up this steep hill and watching the members hit out of 7 inch tall grass up one of the steepest hills on the course.
Lots of memerable times as a caddy and loved every moment of it. I'm sure the course has outgrown their growing pains from the first year, some 16 years ago. All those small trees are probably over 30 feet tall now and mature plants all about, making the holes even tougher now. The only downfall the course had was that some of the holes were hugged my homes, which usually got pegged with flying balls. I've seen many broken windows on the homes too. But that's part of living on the golf course though. Not sure if they have a caddie programs still but i would love to get back there and caddie once again, 16 years later...
