This course has SO much potential, but has some major issues.
The front 9 is carved into the bluffs and is very hilly, scenic, and fun to play. The back 9 provides a contrast to the hilly front 9 (except 16-18) as it is pretty flat and wide open; it reminded me a lot of Gateway National. The workers in the clubhouse (which is really a shed) are very friendly.
The greens are fantastic! They were in excellent condition when I played and had a lot of variation. The course is kind of hidden, so it hasn’t been too crowded the times I’ve played.
The houses that you can see from 7 are gorgeous, and rival some of the houses that line Far Oaks. (notice I said SOME) :)
The BAD:
O.K. there is no chipping/putting green which was a big downer (especially considering how tough their greens can be), and the “clubhouse” is technically a big shed that doubles as their golf cart garage.
The fairways (especially on the hilly portion of the front 9) and tee boxes need a lot of work; they were patchy and even if you drove the fairway you probably wouldn’t end up with a good lie. They definitely need to do something about directing you from one hole to another in some parts. The course is pretty spread out and the signs that guide you always fall over and it’s hard to navigate from hole to hole (especially from hole 16 to 17.)
Oh yeah. Get rid of that trashy house with all the broken appliances in the yard in between holes 1 and 2. I don’t need another reminder of how close I am to Dupo and Cahokia.
I give it a: 3.1/5

18 hole course

This course is now an 18-hole course. It contains a mixture of old and new holes and is now one of my favorite courses to play in the area. Rates were reasonable and there are plenty of scenic views from the newer holes. Some of the new holes consist of short and long par 3s with a new short 274 yd par 4 which can be greened with a driver. I recommend at least playing this course once just to see how different it is from the old 9 hole.
