Course Reviews

This golf course is a "hidden jewel" in Tampa. It is a municipal Course run extremely well and course conditions are excellent. The greens and tees are in good shapeand fairways marginal with a "fair" rough. Great layout near Busch Gardens and the best value to play. The course staff are friendly and helpful with legendary golfers of yesteryear such as Charles Sifford and Calvin Peete, had played there when starting out.I am sure that golfers of any skill or level including ladies would find this course a
"hidden jewel" in Tampa.

Played a few rounds there last week (Nov. 19-24) during my break and found the course to be in the best shape I have ever seen it in. Green were rolled great and held well without being overly wet. Fairways were coming in (overseed) and overall shape of the course was great. They have fixed a couple of tees. It's a great course to walk. It usually has some great rates also.

I HAVE GOLFED THIS COURSE 3 TIMES AND EVERY TIME I FEEL THAT I AM INTRUDING ON A PRIVATE COURSE IN THAT I AM NOT AFRICAN AMERICAN . THE LAST TIME I GOLFED THERE WITH A FRIEND (WHO IS 75 YEARS OLD) HE HIT THE WRONG BALL THAT WAS ON OUR FAIRWAY . THE BALL HAD BEEN HIT ONTO OUR FAIRWAY BY AN AFRICAN AMERICAN AND WAS CLOSE TO MY FRIENDS AND WHEN THE OTHER GOLFER APPROACHED HE STARTED YELLING AND DEMANDED THAT WE RETURN HIS BALL AND TOLD US THAT WE SHOULD KNOW BETTER. I ASKED THAT HE CALM DOWN IF WE MADE A MISTAKE THEN WE WOULD CORRECT IT AND WE WERE SORRY BUT NO MATTER WHAT WAS SAID HE ONLY GOT LOUDER AND TOLD US WE SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING THERE. EVEN THOUGH THE CITY OF TAMPA HAS TAKEN OVER THE COURSE AND MADE SOME GREAT CHANGES I WILL NEVER GOLF THERE AGAIN.

I've played this course about a dozen times now, so I'm compelled to write a review.

No. 1, the staff is friendly and helpful, not surly as with other city munis. Get there a few minutes early and take advantage of the driving range before you tee off. That said....

Rogers Park is hands down the best of the city's three municipal course (Babe Zaharias and Rocky Point being the other two). It's also the most challenging to play and no doubt- the best maintained (by far). Several golfers I know won't play here because Rogers Park has a habit of inflating their scorecards by 10 strokes or more compared to Babe Zaharias. Most fairways are on the tight side, so either bring extra golf balls or an accurate driver and obedient irons -- your choice. Tee boxes are weathered but serviceable. Greens are hit or miss - depending on when you play. If recently worked on (sand or aereation) find another course to play for three weeks or so. Fairways are generally in good to very good shape, considering this is a muni. Course is challenging, bordering on punitive. A few errant shots here and there will quickly get your score to near 100. No. 14, a narrow-necked 483-yard Par 5 will test your accuracy and patience with a Brazillian Pepper jungle running the length of the skinny fairway on the right and water awaiting your next hook on the left. Some parallel fairways.

This course is part of Tampa golf history, originally created by local black golfing enthusiasts back in the 1950s when minorities were banned from other city courses. They did a great job! Today Rogers Park can lay claim to being a professionally-run, well-maintained golf course that offers both a challenge and a fun round for all. Not to mention some really nice cart girls!

The front desk and starter treated us well in spite of a little confusion with the tee time. Interesting course, somewhat forgiving. Greens burned out in places with patches of poa annoa making putting a challenge. Overall a good Florida track, reasonably priced, and an enjoyable day.

Very nice for a public course. Seemed to be well maintained. The greens weren't cut short but I'm sure it's just because of routine maintenance. My only complaint was that I think I was the only one that was playing in a cart. Next time I'll save the money and walk the course as well that way I'm not playing 18 holes of hurry up and wait.

This course is owned by the city and is very well maintained. Its located in the middle of an old Tampa neighborhood but shockingly, there are no houses on the course. Greens are excllent and rolled true and were quite fast, the fairways are wide with several undulations through out the track. The staff was friendly and the price was very low($20 to $30) depending on the time and the coupons that you can find... Some nice views of a few roller coasters over the tree tops from Busch Gardens. My whole foursome was pleased and talked of returning soon...

Great value. Played this course yesterday and found it to be in great shape. The layout is a little boring as most holes are pretty straight with forgiving room if your tee shots stray a little, but the course isn't completely flat which is nice. Water only comes into play on about half of the holes. Would play again if in the area.

Found this course to be challenging and fun to play. It is well worth the green fees.

great greens

found this course on the internet, was down in FL for business, played with Sam, a regular - good golfer, good guy. This course is a muni but in nice shape, very true greens. wind was howling! good value, nice finishing stretch of holes - will go back if I have the opportunity.
