You could not pay me to play this course again. The Greens keeper should be unemployed.
Go somewhere else.

The course is a great play for the price ($20 twilight fee.
The course is undergoing 'irrigation' improvements. 'Your tax dollars at work'...Fortunately, golf courses are one of few municipal entities that don't suck down tax payers' dollars, but I digress.
This isn't the most beautiful course, but you can't blame your score on the condition of this course. Your score is always due to your skill, or in my case the lack of skill.

If you want a manicured course I know a nice, little course up the coast. The course is called Pebble Beach and you can play a round for an affordable $530.00. Guess what? Pebble Beach also has some maintenace issues, but for for what they charge most players leave saying 'hey, I played Pebble Beach' and not what I say: playing this course isn't worth the green fees.

There was a lot oc course work (maintenance and water hazards) going on when I first playe May 4, 2010, so the course wasn't as good as it could be. Overall the course isn't too hard, but putting greens were 'sloooow'. If it weren't for the greens I may have shot 3 or 4 less than what I di shoot. But definitely a course that gives you more bang for ya buck. It's quite cheap even during peak hours($36).

well, (ah-hemm)... Yo, DaGolfer, were you worried that they might through you over the wall of the detention center for STANKIN' up the course and behaving like a juvenile delinquent? [nyuk, nyuk, nyuk...] YEAH, I'm talkin about you...

The course is nothing to cheer about. If you want to play a quirky little course with some interesting turns and doglegs, go have fun. Good course to get off your big duff and walk... Outside of that, go somewhere else if you want to pretend to be Vijay...

another cheap muni disaster: slow pace. worse-than-ever conditions.

there are too much crap to talk about. what a shame.

Nice municipal course, greens were perfect,a little slow , but perfect. Fairways at times blend into the rough, so a thought perfect shot may not be. Cart paths , well, there are none. Big old trees line all the fairways, so not a good place to be. I found out the hard way and had some interesting save shots or not because the trees gobbled up my ball. Liked all the challenges of several dog legs which will keep you honest or for the big hitter you could go for it, rewarding yourself, at times, an easy second or third shot to green. For value it beats Rio Hondo golf club , just up the street. Will definatly go back. A lot of walkers on this course , so rounds can be 41/2 to 5 hours, but hey Golf is a beautiful thing, right?

This is a typical municipal course in the Los Angeles area. The front nine is flat and wide open with very few hazards, but with plenty of trees. The back nine is much more challenging with plenty of water, trees, traps, doglegs, etc. It is a good course for a mid to high handicapper to score well and because of the relative ease of the front nine, will let the golfer warm up before running into the trouble on the back nine.

I've read the other review that mentions the juvenile detention center. I can't figure out why it was mentioned, to be honest. I've been playing this course since 1980 and the detention center has never been an issue with me or any other person I've played with. The only way you'll know it is there are by the twenty-five foot high brick walls that surround the place. No noise, no view inside, nothing.

The staff at the course is very nice; very accomodating.
You'll have your choice of grass or mats on the driving range, and while the carts don't have GPS like the ones at Lakewood CC, they are relatively new and powerful.

The greens are somewhat slow, and as with every municipal course I've ever played they can be a little chewed up depending on whether or not other players have been repairing their ball marks. On a scale of one to ten, I think I would rate them at six and a half, or so.

Los Amigos is not a championship golf course, nor is it meant to be. It's a fun track for mid to high handicappers that at times can take the wind out of your sails somewhere on the back nine.

UPDATE: Just played there today, Wed. Oct 3, 2007....the greens are a mess. I don't know if its a greenskeeper or patron problem but the greens are badly in need of some TLC. I noticed that many of the players are not repairing ball marks. I fixed three or four on nearly every green. Also, the greens are still recovering from the recent aeration. You may want to postpone your round there for a couple of weeks until something can be done to improve maintenance.

This is one of the worst courses I have ever played. It is in terrible condition. Grass is cut uneven and green speeds are ever-changing. I would never play here again. Also right next door is the juvenile delinquint center.
