TaylorMade Qi4D is one of the most lauded drivers of 2026. TaylorMade cooked up several improvements over its predecessors, the highly successful Qi10 and Qi35, and they’re all centered around more distance and forgiveness.

It should come as no surprise, however, that one driver does not fit all, so TaylorMade offers four different models of the Qi4D to cover every player. While they all share the same DNA, a player who swings it 80 mph will definitely not benefit from the same model as the player with 120 mph swing speed.

With that said, let’s take a look at the TaylorMade Qi4D technology and how to figure out which model differences would help your game the most.

Decoding TaylorMade Qi4D Drivers

The four TaylorMade Qi4D models are designed for four different player profiles, but there is some overlap, of course. The core model is designed to fit a wide range of players, whether you play for a living or you’re a typical recreational golfer.

  • TaylorMade Qi4D (90-105 MPH): Appealing to the widest range of players, the core model benefits players with swing speeds and skills from the typical recreational golfer all the way to elite levels.
  • TaylorMade Qi4D LS (100+ MPH): This is the low-spin version, ideal for players with high swing speeds who can launch it on a lower trajectory to maximize distance and direction.
  • TaylorMade Qi4D Max (85-105 MPH): For players who want the most forgiveness, this driver covers a wide range of players and swing speeds.
  • TaylorMade Qi4D Lite (<90 MPH): This is a great choice for seniors, juniors, or many women who have slower swing speeds and are looking to gain more carry and overall distance.

The Qi4D is more aerodynamic and more streamlined with a smaller profile than previous models. It features TaylorMade’s signature 60x Carbon Twist Face, paired with a new roll radius for more consistent spin on low-face hits, and has a slightly different -- perhaps duller -- matte finish.

60x Carbon Twist Face

Every Qi4D model shares the new carbon face that was re-engineered with a new roll radius to deliver more consistent results, no matter where you hit it on the face. In addition, TaylorMade used something called "Finite Element Analysis" to develop a new cut-through Speed Pocket that’s designed to enhance flexibility across the bottom to create a bigger area to maximize ball compression off the face.

TaylorMade’s 60x Carbon Twist Face technology is also an important element. It helps shots struck on the heel and toe stay more online. It's just another way TaylorMade improved forgiveness by tightening dispersion on off-center hits.

REAX Shafts

TaylorMade also introduced Mitsubishi Chemical’s REAX shafts with the Qi4D driver to help players easily find the best fit, regardless of their swing type. Analyzing more than 11 million driver shots over the past two decades, TaylorMade found that players tend to fall into one of three rotation rate categories: high, mid, and low. So they not only developed a shaft to match each category, but a simple way for golfers to fit themselves into the perfect option.

For example, a high-rotation player would be a good fit for the HR (High Rotation) REAX shaft with a softer tip section. (About 20 percent of golfers fall into this category).

About 60 percent of golfers fall into the mid-rotation category, which matches up well with a MR REAX shaft that features a mid tip flex. (Rory McIlroy is a good example.)

Another 20 percent (think Colin Morikawa) fit into the low rotation category, and are best suited for the LR REAX shaft with a stiffer tipsection.

To find the ideal REAX shaft option, TaylorMade suggests simply taking a face-on recording of your swing, and identifying where during the swing the shaft lines up with the lead arm.

  • REAX HR (20% of players): If the lead arm and shaft line up before impact, you’re a high rotator.
  • REAX MR (60% of players): If the lead arm and shaft line up right around impact, you’re a mid rotator.
  • REAX LR (20% of players): If the lead arm and shaft line up after impact, you’re a low rotator.

Adjustability

The Qi4D drivers also are very adjustable with moveable weights, including four in the  Qi4D, and two each for the other models.

Every Qi4D model also features a 4-degree loft sleeve, which allows you to adjust loft, lie and face angle to dial in the best ball flight depending on your swing characteristics and desired ball flight.

On a side note, TaylorMade also offers a head for each model with “Launch Monitor Enabled” reflective monitors, which can capture accurate face data for fitting purposes or practice sessions while using specific launch monitors.

Head Shape and Size: Modern/460cc
Lofts: 8° (right-handed only), 9°, 10.5°, 12°
Weight Settings: Neutral, Fade, Draw, less spin, more forgiveness

The core, Qi4D model, is the go-to option for the biggest group of players. It can be built to fit a wide range of skill levels and swing speeds.

The Qi4D has a four-weight system that includes two 9g weights and two 4g weights.

Put the heavy weights in the front, to cut down on spin and presumably set it up for more distance. Put them in the back to make the driver more stable and forgiving.

Want a fade bias? Put the heavy weights in the toe. Or flip them for a draw bias.

Player Profile: 0-10 HCP seeking less spin
Size: Compact/460cc
Lofts: 8° (right-handed only), 9°, 10.5°
Weight Settings: Neutral, Fade, Draw

Qi4D LS is the low-spin option that precise ball strikers with faster swing speeds crave.

TaylorMade employed feedback from its tour players to develop a more sleek, compact head for the Qi4D LS Driver.

With a more compact head, the LS is designed to prevent ballooning and distance loss by creating a lower ball flight with optimal spin from faster swing speeds.

It’s also the most workable of the four driver models, allowing the skilled player to more easily shape shots.

The Qi4D Max is built for maximum forgiveness.

To achieve this, instead of titanium, TaylorMade engineers use forged and machined aircraft-grade 7075 aluminum to create a lighter head, allowing golfers with slower swing speeds to reach faster clubhead speeds and maximum distance.

Qi4D Max is also TaylorMade’s first Max driver with moveable weights to give players the option of creating a draw, fade, or neutral bias.

The Choice is Yours

The best way, of course, to figure out which TaylorMade Qi4D driver is right for you would be to go through a fitting. Most of these models, except for the LS perhaps, target groups that overlap, so seeing some real-time numbers during a fitting or with a launch monitor can help you dial in on which one is right for you.

But with that said, if you know your own numbers and tendencies, you ought to be able to narrow down your selections. If you’re a 10-handicap, for example, with 100 mph-plus clubhead speed, it’s likely that the Qi4D would be a good fit for you. You would just have to dial in your loft and shaft. But the Qi4D Max might also be a good fit, which is why it’s best to try these clubs out before you buy.
