Ping Rapture With Aldila VS Proto

By Jim Hagerty

The Rapture V2 head is made of titanium and tungsten.
The Ping Rapture V2 is a titanium-tungsten game-improvement driver designed to help developing players keep the ball up and in the fairway. With two sole weights, the club is available in lofts of 9.5, 10.5, 12 and 13.5 degrees. Off the rack, most V2s come stock with the Ping TFC 939 graphite shaft.

Rapture V2s shafted with Aldila VS Proto shaft, an available custom option, make great clubs for player wanting maximum forgiveness and the ability to utilize fast swing speeds off the tee. The VS Proto graphite is more rugged shaft than the TFC and helps keep ball flights down for faster swing speeds.

Rapture V2 Head Specs

The Rapture V2 has a deep face and elongated profile. The club's tungsten sole weights help get the ball up quickly with a reduced the amount of spin. They also help keep the center of gravity away from the face and on the perimeter of the head.

Aldila VS Proto Shaft Specs vs. Ping TFC Specs

The VS Proto is slightly tip-stiff with a mid-launch angle. It is significantly heavier than the stock Ping TFC 939 (67 to 69 grams to the TFC's 49- to 62-gram offerings) and has less torque (degree the club twists during the downswing). The Aldila VS Proto 65 has 3 degrees of torque while the Ping TFC is 3.3 to 5.2 degrees (desirable for slower swing speeds).

Aldila / Rapture V2 Performance

The game-improvement characteristics and strong, titanium-tungsten construction of the Rapture V2 clubhead perform more like a player's club when equipped with an Aldila VS Proto shaft. The shaft's low torque and tip- and bore-stiffness allows players with strong swing speeds to keep ball flights low and penetrating and still take advantage of the game-improvement features of the driver.
