Great course ,,, little windy out..... but why can't they rent pull carts...?????
I was told by a friend that NYCC was under new ownership so I decided to come play a round in this past fall and see how it compared to my previous experience under the old ownership and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The greens fees are actually reasonable now compared to what they were, the staff is very amicable and has some beautiful girls driving the beverage cart! I'll definitely be coming back, chasing down that beverage cart. The one downside would be the divots left by people not fixing the divots they make.
Played the course for the first time today, and was very pleased. Best upscale daily fee course I've played in the New York Metro area in terms of quality of design. There are three issues, though, that keep me from giving the course a "4" star rating. First, the fairway grass is kept way too long, and is like hitting out of the first cut. Impossible to use a 3-wood under the circumstances. Second, the bunkers need major tending and many need resanding. Third -- and this is something the proshop should handle on check-ins, there are way, way too many unrepaired ball marks on the greens and unraked bunkers because golfers apparently can't be bothered. They need to be reminded to fix their marks and rake traps out of courtesy to their fellow duffers.
Wow! After reading those comments below, I didn't even want to go play there but was invited for a tournament. I actually asked the front desk staff about all the comments posted here. I was informed they're under new ownership and I have to say this place is a hidden gem. Saw the greens fees and nothing is over $100, not even weekday prime. Whatever it is they're doing, I hope they keep it up! On top of that, the nicest view I've ever seen at a golf course of the Manhattan skyline.
Attractive course; fairly tough. Driving range was closed on my visit. Decent putting and chipping areas. Good facilities. Great sandwiches, made to order.
