Neat little course in Queens.Played Kissena Park on a mild, but windy January Sunday. The course is short - it is a par 64 layout of about 4,700 yards from the back tees consisting of all par 3s and 4s. The longest hole is about 380 yards. That does not mean it is completely easy though. The course is quite hilly. The second hole is an uphill par 4 of about 350 yards that is their 1 handicap hole and it is a challenge. The third hole is a downhill dogleg left par 4 that is also a challenge. The 14th hole is a sharp uphill par 3 of about 160 yards. So while most holes are quite easy, there are some challenging ones in there. The pace of play on this Sunday was quick. My wife and I played in about 2 1/2 hours.Check the golfnyc website for winter specials. We played Kissena for $30 per person - their after 11AM special and that included a cart. It is $20 per person without a cart.In summary, a decent, reasonable City course. If you do not have 5-6 hours to play Van Cortlandt Park or Clearview and do not mind playing a shorter course, then try Kissena.
This is the most improved course in the city. The entire course hs been upgraded since I first started playing golf in 2007. It is not for beginners only anymore. It is for the average golfer. The second hole is a legit par 4 uphill with a tough green. The par 3 ninth might be one of the toughest par 3s in the city. If you love to walk, it is a hilly course with a tremendous view of manhattan. This is a diamond in a rough. I hope it remains a secret. I show up whenever and can get on other then sat and sun mornings. Great job Kissena!!!!!!!!!
