A great municipal course. Short but challenging. Danger lurks everywhere. Shot positioning is critical, find yourself in the trees on any hole and the strokes will add up quickly.Small, well maintained greens. A very friendly staff. A must play course in this area.

If you are not familure with this course, club selections on the dog legs can be a real mystery. I lost untold strokes in my first round there because I didn't have the right club off the tee and there is no way to tell the yardage to the corner of the doglegs. It will take a number of rounds to figure this stuff out, but I probably won't get the opportunity to get down there more than a few times a year.
Todd Hamilton also spent a good deal of time later on at Hawthorn Ridge in Aledo, Illinois, which is very challenging from the blue tees. I used to see him there all the time back in the stone age when I was young haha.....

What a neat public course! This well maintained beauty is long enough to be a challenge, without being impossible. The rolling terrain and well placed trees afford just the right amount of challenge for the average golfer.
I played it in June and will play again in October, and expect its maintenance to be primo again.

Gison Woods review

To start this IS the course that 2004 British Open champion Todd Hamilton called home, don't be fooled by other surrounding courses that make the same claim. Bring some extra balls with you ecause they don't call it Gibson WOODS for nothing. This is a course that if played on a regular basis will make you into a better golfer. The local high school team won 8 state titles in an 11 year period, with five different individual champions. This course is tight but not so tight that you can't play your way out of trouble. Take advantage of the par five's and watch out for holes 12 thru 17. this is a great course to play on. Remember don't become frustrated and take it one hole at a time. And don't forget to hold nothing back on number 2.
