I arrived a bit late for my tee time but the staff at the (quite small) proshop was courteous and helpful. I wanted to have a quick practice range session beforehand but didn't manage to squeeze one in so I did not have a chance to check out the range..
As far as the course is concerned it was fairly well maintained being peak summer conditions I was expecting it to be in worse shape. It was fairly challenging and a plethora of dog legs awaits you. Greens were terribly slow but in good shape nonetheless. Fairways were extremely narrow so a range session before hand is recommended. The rough is challenging to say the least so keep it straight and simple is a good approach.
As far as the course is concerned its playable and fun if you remember to keep it simple. It however lacks that feeling of solace usually accompanied with golf. No matter which hole you are on reminders of modern civilization are nearby. Houses, roads and businesses line the outskirts of the course hindering any peace or mental detachment from day-day life. Which is one of the main reasons I play.
I would recommend this course to others as it does offer a fair challenge and you can get great discounts non it. As for paying full price I would pass and venture elsewhere.

I recently played this course in mid july after being away for 2 years. I can say that desite this record drought, the conditions and maintenance of the course has changed dramatically for the better. Fairways no longer have dead and bare areas and the ball sits up nicely. Greens look much better and although its dry becuse of no rain, the greens and tees stil look great. For an older course, its a good value and good to see they are making improvements to course conditions

The condition of this course gets worse every year. The pro shop continues to receive many complaints but never does anything about the situation.
Playing this course will only make you appreciate other venues.

The tee boxes are like your backyard - only not level. The sand traps contain too much dirt. Greens aren't bad but play very slow.

Fairways are not defined as grass that happens to be shorter than the rough and I don't think they know that here. This is a problem at this course EVERY YEAR!! So I guess that means it won't change. The fairway was probably a half to full inch too long. You couldn't see the bottom of you ball unless you got lucky. They added GPS to new carts and think that means they are not comp for Chevy Chase and nothing could be farther from the truth. COURSE CONDITION MAKES YOU COMP!!!!!! This course is poorly maintained, but they managed to increase the green fees...not worth the trip.
