Great course, fast as lightning greens, good scenery, great staff, just a great place to play golf.

The fairways on this course were incredible..The greens had been sanded recently and rolled very true..One of my best rounds ever. The cart paths are wide..Great Tee boxes..I drove over an hour to get there and it was well worth the time..The staff there is great too..

Fabulous course to play. Great challenge for the good golfer. Course is in immaculate condition and the greens run true and fast. You need to drive it straight and choose your clubs wisely because of the elevation changes on many holes.

I am a regular Athens-area public course golfer. This is by far the best course in the area. It is immaculately maintained for a public course. Great Fairways. The greens are without a doubt the most difficult and well maintained in the area (much better than the UGA course). I've heard that the new owner is a former greens keeper for Reynolds Plantation.

While it really isn't that long (all 3 par 5s are reachable in 2 with good shots), it gives you a lot of variety off the tee. You can (and probably should) hit 3 wood about 4 or 5 holes. If you are in town visiting, this is the course to play (assuming you aren't playing GA club or ACC). Highly recommended.

"New" Lane Creek

I've played nearly every course in the Athens Georgia area but Lane Creek always has been my favorite, because of its layout, despite its perennial problems with bent grass greens in the summer and progressive decline in the past few years. Since its rehabilitation by Medalist Golf in the summer of 2006, it has become a premier course while green fees are still reasonable: $39 Mon-Turs, $43 Friday, $48 on weekends but seniors over 60 get Mon-Thurs for $30. I do have a gripe that UGA students pay $25 during the week (after 3 PM on Fridays as well as after 3PM on the weekends. The new champion bermuda greens are high on the stimp meter and are difficult with undulations that are challenging even though the ball runs perfectly true. All fairways and rough are sheared daily (I live in the neighborhood)and very few instances of goosegrass and fescue clumps remain in the fairways. All old bunkers have been replenished with ample and fluffy white sand and new ones have been installed to increase difficulty. It now is par 71 but the reconfiguration of one of the par 5s results in a glory/defeat possibility on the front nine.

The staff is indeed friendly and dutiful, but the management- professional staff is now headed by Butch Foust, formerly of Augusta National and Reynolds Plantation who also is a co-owner.

Try it, you'll like it!

The "New Lane Creek"

Played on 09/11/06 and was very impressed with the changes made on a "terrible" golf course. Worth playing for those who remember what it was before. You will be shocked as to just how enjoyable it is now. The club Pro: Brent Mitchell is very gracious and anxious to know about your enjoyment (quite a change from the past). Rates are very reasonable and greens are great even though they are only about six-weeks old. The more they mature the better they will get. Don't pass it up if you remember the old course, this is very good....
