Nice course. Shorter than the British Course. Well-maintained and a real value at $11 for 9 holes after 3 PM. They do have a problem with their staff. I was there twice and both times the pro shop guy I dealt with was terse. The starter, too, seemed like he wanted to be anywhere else but there. Note--if you want to play the Executive Course you have to pay for it in the main pro shop. The Executive Course is down the road but you can't pay for anything there.
As for Louie, the "homeless person", he's been there for over 20 years. Most of the local golfers love him and his self-reliant spirit. And it is nice to have someone to sell you cheap balls on the course if you've lost too many in the water.

The Bobby Jones Golf Complex is a great value in the heart of Sarasota. Very good greens fees and all course are walkable (not at all times, especially in season. The American is the shorter of the 2 18 hole courses (there is also a 9 hole par 30 executive course). The course is well-maintained with friendly staff. No, this course won't compare to the private country club courses in the area, but is is a nice course. The fairways can be a bit narrow and the water does come into play. All in all a very good value in western Fl golf.

My experience at this course was not every pleasant to say the least. First they started off, rushing us from the range to the tee box 10minutes early and then the next tee time which was supposed to be 20minutes after us, teed off instead 5 minutes after us. We were constantly being told by the ranger to speed up even though we couldn't hit our ball since we were waiting on the people in front of us. There was not beverage cart. The course was full of puddles and was mulky. And to top it all off, there was a bum (homeless person) walking the course picking up balls and trying to sell it to us!!! I will NOT ever golf at this course again. It was awful!

Course is very "open" but holes are narrow for a FL golf course. Club house is still stuck in the 1960s. But I'd recommend the course.
