Great Competitive golf course and wonderful staff

The best greens and value in the Sarasota/Venice area.

Reviewed February 01, 2013

I played this course on Jan. 26, 2013 and thought the course was very good. The greens were in great shape and the layout was very good as well. The course was in very good shape. The back tees make this course long and tough. The white tees were a little too short. They need a combo set of tees between these two markers. The course was set up to be a private gated community with houses around the course, but the downturn in the economy got them. No houses have been built yet, so it is just golf (nice not to be playing in someone's back yard). With no houses built yet, the clubhouse is just a place to pay for your golf. No food or drink to speak of. The price was very reasonable and included cart and driving range balls (we paid $65 per person). The driving range is a place to loosen up, not practice. There were no flags to hit too, no yardages marked and most shots you couldn't see land, since you hit over a hill to a lake. Overall, I would definitely play here again.

Played on June 13. Greens had been arified but actually rolled pretty good. Lot's of weeds popping up in the fairways. Looks like they are in some trouble money wise. Golf course is great. From the back tees, it's a beast. Great layout. Hopefully they will be able to keep the place going, it's a great course.

This has become one of our favorite courses with a nice mix of holes, lengths, and left to right, right to left doglegs. While the Sarasota National property is in foreclosure or bankruptcy, the golf staff is still doing a nice job to maintain the quality of the course. We'll continue to play here each year when we visit as the course is one of the best tracks in the area.

We played the course on 8/13/11 and the greens were perfect. I would rate them a 10, on a scale of 1-10 with 10, high. The course is an excellent value with summer rates. We are not into amenities and scenery, but great greens and a nice layout, that is what is important to us. We played it in four hours and it is one of our favorites, we play it several times May-Oct. So if you like a nice course don't be concerned with the lack of a manicured entry, no 19th hole and scenery. Our guys like good tracks and also like Riverwood, Kingsway, Misty Creek to name a few.

Wide open off the tee. Great greens. A fair test off golf. Lacks a nineteenth hole!

Troon knows good golf. i really liked this course. not walkable by any means. long distances between holes. loved the fact that this course winds through wetlands and you dont see as much as 1 house on the whole course. a true "middle of nowwhere" course. It was in great shape too. Greens were fast and fun to putt on with some crazy undulation on some of them. And long too. the tips played pretty much all 7344 yrd minus some corners cut. clubhouse had good selection at the turn and was super friendly. a bit expensive in the winter (late Jan.) but range balls and good practie area as well as detailed course yardage map helped. it does need more yardage markers, so a GPS would help especially if there was one on the cart. all in all i highly recommend it.

This is the most beautiful course I have ever played. I am a mid-handicapper and this had some seriously wide and very playable fairways. Great greens, very fast and even, fairways were in decent shape. No houses within site, every hole is unique and you cannot see any other players or holes from your green. Only issue was lack of a lunch or hotdug area. Overall I am very pleased with course.

Course not well marked. It is however beautiful. Bring your GPS.

If the wind is blowing you will know it. It seemed like the wind was blowing in our face on every hole. (how can that happen?) The course is very open with few trees and almost no homes around the area. You may think you are the only group playing due to how the course "wanders" all around the area. This was the most expensive ($66) course that we played, but will probably go up in the future. Very nice for only being open for a little over a year. The yardage book they gave each foursome was very helpful. The mechandise in the clubhouse is very nice, as is the clubhouse itself. Still no license to sell beer, if you want that. I would probably play hear again if the price remains reasonable.

Agree mostly with capehaze's long good quality review. although i thought the course was phenominal. Top 10. I played it in December 2008, it was in AMAZING shape, very very well manicured and great to play. Was blown away by how green the grass was and how perfect all the holes were.

The fairways are super wide, but being on one side and being on the other side makes for a totally different hole. Greens are in phenominal shape. fast or slow depending on the nearest water hazard, they are in tip top shape all around. My 5 iron shots held fine.

The course is built in the middle of what one day will be a housing development, but today (2008) virtually no homes are being built
-------- this is true, it is eerie being there, sad i guess. but it is built in a 2200 acre housing/wildlife development so there is plenty of wildlife mixed in with the pre-set tamped down gravel homesites.

features. The holes are pretty, well landscaped and maintained, and are pleasing to the eye, but the edges of most fairways quickly turn into wasteland.
------- true but is lmost better than houses ! wide open, plays like a mountain course where the sides of the hole are really out-of-bounds.

The course just opened less than a year ago, and many facilities are not yet complete.
------- true, no food either.

The layout is imaginative, and challenging, and there are some holes that are unique and exciting to play.
------- awesome layout and beautiful. saw lots of soft shelled turtles !

also, this course is super cheap. on or they have specials for like $40 and under. For that price it can't be beat. Probabl a $120 winter priced round for $35 !! Would HIGHLY recommend.

I played about the same time as "cape haze" and agree with many of his comments although a very fast running course is a little unique to the area. But all 4 of us played right to our handicaps on a very windy day. Many of the older courses are more plush but have "mucky' fairways. It is very open, on windy days consider moving up a set of tees (or 2) to compensate for the conditions. I thought the course was fair value for the $$'s.

This might be a very good course one day, but right now it is just too new. The course is not terribly long except from the back tees. The fairways are wide and forgiving, but there are absolutely no trees other than a few newly planted cabbage palms here and there, so on a windy day, you've got to keep it low. The greens are large with a lot of undulations, and they are very, very fast and rock hard. Even a high, soft wedge will not hold the green in most cases. You really need to take one less club and try to roll it on, but even that is difficult as most greens have a false front.

The course is built in the middle of what one day will be a housing development, but today (2008) virtually no homes are being built, so all along every hole is nothing but empty space, full of sand, parched scrub, and dried-out water features. The holes are pretty, well landscaped and maintained, and are pleasing to the eye, but the edges of most fairways quickly turn into wasteland.

The course just opened less than a year ago, and many facilities are not yet complete. The outlying restrooms are non-functional and are instead supplemented with Port-O-Potties. They do not have a license to sell beer or liquor yet, so the beverage cart is a bit lightly stocked. They do provide ice water in every cart, however.

The layout is imaginative, and challenging, and there are some holes that are unique and exciting to play. If they soften up the greens and build up the surrounding wastelands, we might return for another round. Until then, we'll play elsewhere.
