Course Reviews

PLAYED THERE A MONTH AGO AND NOW HEADING BACK MONDAY.GREENS ARE IN GREAT SHAPE::::SOME TEE BOXES NEED REPAIR

Played this course for the first time Friday....it was a very interesting layout...so the greens weren't the best...still a good bargain and trust me there are some very picturesque and solid holes on this course...the architect did a great job with the land...YES...I will definitely be back.

The black sheep of the Atlanta City courses (browns mill, tup holmes, bobby jones, north fulton). The tee boxes, and fairways leave much to be desired, while the 2 yr old greens are in good shape.Wouldnt impress anyone here, but a good track for a practice round, for cheap!!!

The scenary on this course is spectacular. The greens are running well of late. The course is not always crowded and therefore makes for an enjoyable walk or ride any time of the day. My friend and I like to play without having to wait and this is for us.

I absolutely love playing this course. It is my favorite of the City of Atlanta courses. In the middle of a major city, this course has elevations you'd find in a mountain course, it has many sharp dogleg holes and very narrow fairways. The greens as of late are in fantastic shape. Overall, if you want an easy to score on course with wide open fairways, head to Browns Mill. If you're up to a very challenging course with really nice scnerey, Tup is a must.

This is a good course. My rating would have been higher had the greens been in better shape. The greens where in need of repair due to the very hot summer we had this year. If the the grounds people cant keep the greens going at East Lake for the Tour Championship then I couldnt possibly think that this course could do better. Asside from the greens this course was very fun. There are some steep dropoffs behind some of the greens so dont hit it long. Had the greens been better I would have scored this course higher.

While it's not a terrible course, I probably won't be going back.

There's a few reasons why:

1) It's poorly maintained.
There were 2 holes where there were swarms of wasps around the tee box. Obviously there's a nest somewhere nearby and these things don't just pop up over night. How about a little bug spray??
I have enough trouble keeping my drives straight, I don't need bees buzzing around me making it more difficult.

2) The sand traps were almost like hardpan.
I understand that the sand gets compacted after a rain storm, but it hadn't rained for 4 days. How about the occasional rake job?

3) The greens.
Lets just call them "The browns". Seriously, there's more sand than grass on some of them.

4) The layout.
There's a few blind tee boxes which result in people hitting into you because they don't even see that your there.
Plus it felt cramped in spots where people are driving almost at other tee boxes.
Heck, there's 2 holes (I think it was the 9th and 17th) where the tee boxes are right next too each other, and the greens down the hill are right next to each other. Unless you know the course, you can't tell which hole you should be hitting to.

Overall, it just felt crummy.
But hey, it was only $30 a golfer, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

This is my favorite place to play in atlanta.

Now, let me be clear. It is not the most well maintained course in the area, so if you want 6" ruff, don't come play here (although i wouldn't say the conditions are less than "good"). It is also not the cheapest place you can play in atlanta (although the rates are very very reasonable.) And it is probably not one of the longest courses in atlanta (every par 5 is reachable with no more than a 5 iron if you hit a solid drive.)

I love this course for 2 reasons: the people and the layout.

I have seen reviews which say that this course is "in the ghetto" and that people felt they "needed a gun for protection". Well, it is true that to get to this course from 85/75 you need to drive through an area which may seem a bit rough. But serriously, its the middle of the day and you are in your car just driving through... nobody is going to bother you, and you have nothing to worry about anyways. The golf course itself is in the woods, surrounded for the most part by a nice wooded neighborhood. Besides this, every single person i have ever come in contact with for the 4 years i lived in atl and played this course have been nothing short of overly friendly. People who frequent this course are easygoing and chatty. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I had them switch out a golf cart for me once mid round, and they were incredibly nice about the whole thing.

The layout is extremely unusual. The course is built on a battlefield, which i believe represented the outer defenses of atlanta during the civil war. There are plaques on 9 and 17 explaining the terrain and history. As such, 9 and 16 persent a unique challenge as the tee boxes on each hole look out over a very large, wide valley, with the greens on the opposite hillside. 9 is a 200+ yard par 3, reachable to me with my 5 iron (195 yard club). A miss here usually means your ball rolls down into the valley and you are left with a massive uphill pitch. 17 is even more interesting, as it plays around 265, and is a par 4. a good driver, 3 wood, or hybrid might get you on the green, but if you can't carry it, there is fairway below.

All in all, it is an experience, certainly one you should have at least once if you happen to be in the area.
