For 100 years, Nanaimo Golf Course on Vancouver Island has provided an excellent golf experience with views that are truly unforgettable. The scenery on the course is breathtaking, with ocean views, perfectly manicured landscaping and the ideal blend of natural and manmade features. Enjoy the beauty from the course or the nice patio area. The course comes with plenty of challenges, but there are six tees to choose from so golfers of all abilities can compete. From the championship back tees, the par-72 course measures 6,700 yards. You open the round with the second-longest hole on the course, the 506-yard, par-5 first hole. A bunker on the left side of the fairway can affect your tee shot unless you are a long hitter who can carry it. The fairway bottlenecks just before the green so there are risks with trying to reach the green in two. There is water to contend with on several of the holes but bunkers are the most common hazard on the course. Every hole has at least one bunker except for the seventh hole. The No. 1 handicap hole is the 431-yard, par-4 sixth hole. Trees line both sides of the narrow fairway so an accurate drive is a plus. The fairway slopes from right to left and the green is slightly elevated with a frontside bunker. The semi-private club offers memberships or guest play, but a tee time is required in advance. Guests and members can enjoy the 18-tee driving range, two putting greens and practice pitching green, as well as the top-rated restaurant in the clubhouse. Try the Friday night fish and chip special or a prime rib along with the nice selection of wine and beer.Visit the pro shop for tips about the course before you play.
