This review is for the 18-hole course at Oak Mountain State Park. A very scenic, fun-to-play track. I played it in January 2011 and I'm looking forward to playing it again in the spring. It is not overly difficult; if you are a low-handicapper and want a challenge, then play the blue tees.

A pleasant golf trek in the woods.

I haven't wanted to play too many other courses since finding this one. The course is very well maintained. The greens are slow, but decent shape. The scenic fairways are surrounded by water and tall pines. But they they did not add too much artificial difficulty to them (the course has maybe 10 total bunkers). My only gripe about the course itself is the slow speed and small size of the greens. If they could fix those two things, this course would be worth double the price.
Another thing, this place could be less crowded. Instead of booking tee times, they push a group onto the first tee every 4 minutes or so. It gets claustrophobic out there in the afternoons.
All-in-all, great golf without the extra unnecessary luxuries.

In my opinion, the best course in B'ham for the money. Very well maintained with a courteous staff. Many older walkers at this course though they were speedy. The course is not overly challenging but can also be misleading. I'm looking forward to another round.

A pleasant surprise! I moved here last year from Washington State and I've played a lot of courses looking for one that was well maintained at a reasonable price. This course is it! The fairways had a nice even coverage and they were well manicured. To my delight, the greens were actually green and they even held my 6 irons. They left divots and putted true. I was getting tired of wedges bouncing 15 ft in the air. I had come to believe there wasn't a decent course in Birmingham for under $50. I was a bit put off by the $2 fee the park charged to enter and park but I felt better after they gave me a free parking/entry pass with my green fee for next time. So plan on $31 the first time and a very reasonable $29 each time there after. The course is challenging but forgivng and I really liked the way it kept my attention. A great track for the money!

Ok, here's the Deal: I moved to Birmingham from Kentucky and I'm looking for a good golf course, right? Well I see the reviews for Oak Mtn and figure "hey, it's a great value and sounds nice, i'll go check it out". Here's the problem, I never even got to go visit the course BECAUSE THEY WANT YOU TO PAY 3 BUCKS TO EVEN PARK IN THE OAK MTN STATE PARK? What is up with that? I'm sorry, but I'm not paying 3 dollars to park just so I can play golf and spend another 30 bucks on their course. There are plenty of other courses in the birmingham area that are a good value. The park is beautiful, don't get me wrong, but I never made it to the course b/c of the parking fees!!

This is one of the most easily walk-able courses in the Birmingham area. The greens are typically slow, but they are usually very smooth. The fairways have been in wonderful shape recently (June 2008). Like many other reviewers have mentioned, the course offers one of the best values in the area at $15 for a weekday walker.

Fair course in great shape. Great value. Good opp. for a weekender or mid handi-capper to play a good course at an excellent value. Wouldn't recommend playing after a lot of rain as the fairways hold a lot of water in places. All in all a great course.

great value good course

Fairways are in good shape. Greens(bermuda) are not the best but are playable. I love playing this course.
