Ely Callaway sold his vineyard for $14 million before purchasing a piece of Hickory Stick USA for $400,000 in 1982. A year later, Callaway renamed the company Callaway Hickory Stick USA.

In 1988, Callaway Hickory Stick USA became Callaway Golf Company as sales hit $4.8 million.
S2H2 Irons and Woods
In 1988 and 1989, the company introduced the S2H2 irons and woods. The clubs became popular among amateurs and professionals as they became the number one iron on the Senior PGA Tour.
The Big Bertha
Callaway Golf Company introduced the Big Bertha in 1991. The Big Bertha, the first wide-head steel wood, was a huge hit as the company sales reached $54.8 million that year.
Callaway Golf Balls
Callaway started its golf ball business in 1996. During the next 10 years, the company launched several golf ball lines including the HX series and the Red and Blue series.
