Titleist TS4 Driver Review

Updated June 22, 2021
Titleist TS4 Driver

The Titleist TS4 driver was released several months after the popular TS2 and TS3 drivers and addressed a specific concern by some golfers – too much ball spin off the tee. All the TS drivers are engineered from the crown to the shaft to optimize the golfer's swing speed, but the TS4 adds another level to increased distance with extreme spin reduction.

How Does the TS4 Driver Reduce Spin?

The TS4 driver has a low, forward-positioned CG that reduces the spin of the ball at contact. Less spin means a more piercing flight for longer distance off the tee. Prior to the release of the TS drivers, spin-reducing Titleist drivers were typically made to order.

The Same TS Look and Feel

The TS4 was the third of the four TS drivers released by Titleist. It shares many of the speed-based characteristics of its cousins. Four components make up the Titleist Speed Chassis in the TS4.

      • Thin Titanium Crown – The crown is 20 percent thinner in the TS1 than in the 917 drivers, the TS Series predecessor. Weight is shifted lower and deeper.
      • Thinner, Faster Face – Upon release, the TS driver redesigned face was the fastest Titleist had ever made. The thinner face is not only fast, it's forgiving.
      • Streamlined Shape – The sleek design allows the clubhead to travel faster and your shots further.
      • Optimized Weight Distribution – The club has a lower center of gravity (CG) than previous Titleist drivers and the result is higher launch and lower spin.

TS4 Drivers Have a Smaller Head

Unlike the other TS drivers which all have a 460cc head, the TS4 has a smaller, pear-shaped 430cc head. The smaller, aerodynamic design allows for even faster swing speed.

What Golfers Use the TS4 Driver?

Max Homa used the TS4 off the tees when he won his first PGA Tour title, the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship. Homa shot an 8-under-par 63 in the second round of the tournament. Tour veteran Adam Scott had the TS4 in his bag when he won the 2020 Genesis Invitational.

Most professional golfers opt for the TS2 or TS3 or the latest releases, the Titleist TSi2 and TSi3 drivers. The TS4 is for golfers who have fast head speed and consistent ball impact.

        Is the TS4 Driver Forgiving?

Because of the smaller head size, the TS4 is the least forgiving of the TS drivers. The TS4 has a lower MOI, as is the case with most low ball spin drivers.
